I have the end caps off of my 2.5" Hard Krome American Classic so I can add the Smartpartz Hard Kore Quiet Baffles. The visible part of the aluminum end caps is just a 3/4" ring of chrome. The chrome has definitely seen better days - there are some sections that have completely flaked off (the pipes themselves are fine). I was thinking of removing all the chrome and black anodizing the caps; thinking the flat-black ring on the end of the pipes would look decent on my black X.

The attractive part about using black anodize is that I have a readily available service at a very reasonable price.

Does anyone foresee a problem with using black anodize as the only finish?

To remove the remaining chrome, my plan is use emery cloth and sandblasting. Is that a viable plan of attack?

I've got the same pipes and the tips were flaking. It's not uncommon.
I used a wire wheel on them, then fine sand paper, and used a high heat satin black spray paint.
It's stayed on all summer and still looks good. Sorry I don't have any new pics.
