I purchased a used set of the standard Cobra engine guards for my VTX-1800R, 2003. The bottom attachment seems pretty straight forward. It's the top part thats confusing me. I'm trying to figure out how to mount the top of the guards to the bike. Maybe I'm missing a part/mount?

How does the top standard (1 1/4") Cobra engine guard mount to the frame? Any close pic's of this?

Cobra engine guards

Had a hard time figuring that out too.

There is a bracket required. It mounts to a cross member that runs between the down tubes on the frame in behind the radiator. It is down about 10" if I recall correctly.

You have to remove the rad bolts and pull the rad away from the frame to get the bracket into place (rad still connected by hoses - no need to drain).

There are existing holes in the cross piece that accept the bolts for the bracket. Need to be patient (tight spot). The bars bolt to the bracket on the top and directly to existing bolts on the frame on the bottom.

For installation instructions you can visit the Cobra web site (Cobra.com or Cobrausa.com I think). The directions are not all that clear but as soon as you spot the cross member on the frame you will figure it out.
