My 1800c has had a Cobra tach on it since I got it that has had some issues which I would like to iron out.
I rarely look at the tach and don't use it to tell me when to shift but since it is on the bike I would like to get it working properly.
The tach will randomly stop working and just as randomly it will start working again.
The inside of the headlight bucket is a rats nest and it wouldn't surprise me that the intermittent tach is caused by a loose connection.

The Cobra tach has four wires coming from it: Black, Green, Red, Blue.

In the headlight bucket the tach connections are:
Black (from tach) to Black in Bikes harness
Blue (from tach) to Brown w/ black stripe in Bikes harness
Red (from tach) to Brown w/ black stripe in Bikes harness
Green (from Tach) to Yellow in Bikes harness

Can anyone with a Cobra tach or knowledge of them confirm that these connections are correct?
Edit:
Cobra still has the instruction pdf available.

It appears as though the wiring is correct. I'll have to look into the connections themselves.

Have same issue with mine. Mine is wired to the rear coil. I have taken it apart and cleaned all connections, but still it is flighty. I plan on removing it, as I only use to shift at 5k when hammering. Which balance out to 30-60-80-100. Been that way since Christmas 2004 when I rode to Peoria IL and got road deicer all over my bike.

Some began using the Camshaft position Sensor and were getting less bouncing on the tach needle.
Chuck_VTX_F wired my VDO/Rivco setup several years ago. It was originally for a 1300. I didn't know that when I bought it, but after some research I found the difference why it wouldn't work on my 1800. A call to Rivco and a very good service person helped locate a little black adapter to make it work on my 1800. My tach needle is rock steady. There is a company called Split-Sec.com that sells adapters to smooth out tach pulses so they don't bounce. FWIW, IDK where Chuck wired my tach into.

My advice would be to get rid of the tach all together. I spent 4 months trouble shooting and replacing components on a friends VTX, trying to fix a poor running issue (breking down, poor idle, loss of power). It turned out to be the Cobra tach was the issue.

I am considering dumping the tach.
I am kicking the idea around of removing the radio headunit in my batwing fairing and replacing it with a Bluetooth marine amp and then installing the mount for my Garmin Zumo XT where the headunit was.
In this scenario the GPS would take over as my media player, but the tach would slightly obstruct the view of the GPS.
I don't use the tach anyway so if I do talk myself into mounting the GPS to the fairing it wouldn't be a big loss
