Hi, I'm coming from Minneapolis on the 12-14th of this month. I'll be getting to MI by one of the two ferry's on the Wisconsin side. After that the general plan is to drive up around L. Michigan and back to Minneapolis. Does anyone have suggestions on scenic routes or attractions I shouldn't miss. Thanks Michigan X riders. Shane

Hi Shane,

Take 31 to Manistee then 31 to 22 to Frankfort then on to Empire. Visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

After crossing the Mackinaw Bridge highway highway 2 is real nice from St. Ignace to Naubinway. After that I don't know much of the road back into Wisconsin.

If you have the time and the curiosity, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on the Lake Superior side of the U.P. is also very nice.

Sleeping Bear dunes has a 450ft slope from the top down to Lake Michigan. At Pictured Rocks there is a 300ft dune slope down to Lake Superior.

Again I'm not too familiar with the south side of the U.P. someone who knows more about Crystal Falls and Iron Mountain may tell you a bit about them.

From Empire take either M22 north into Northport and back down to Traverse City or take M72 east from Empire and then take US31 to Petoskey then take M119 it’s called the “Tunnel of Trees” it’s a few miles west of Harbor Springs take this into Cross Village take County road 66 east to US31 then north to I75 and cross the Mackinac Bridge. Take US2 into Iron Mountain. Have a great trip. Sniper

I don't know a whole lot about the west side of the state or the u.p. but just wanted to wish you a save trip.
If your near traverse city during the cherry festival, you have to get yourself a cherry burger, everyone says they are actually really good, but I have never had one so don't take my word for it.
