Finally took the plunge, and pick up my brand spanking new VTX18R on Saturday.

First thought: What is the best alarm/immobiliser on the market, and is LO-JACK worth it?

I want to take off the sewage pipes that come on the bike and replace them with something a little more streamlined. I really like the look of the BUB Jug Huggers, but I don't want to wake the neighborhood when I creep out for an early Sunday morning ride (as I'm sure I will this weekend). Any recommendations?

Finally, for now, I have big feet, 12.5 (HEY!! 6'6" and 300lbs, I'm allowed to have). Anyone of similar size have issues with the gearshift, and is there anything I can do about it?

with loud pipes, just ride in to the neighbourhood in second gear and
stay off the throttle ... no blipping or rapping ... just cruise in ... no
worse than the average muscle car or pick up truck ...

as for alarms ... park next to Harleys ... VTX's are seldom stolen ...

the shifter can be adjusted a little by adjusting the linkage ... or
go to a single arm shifter.

oh yeah ... only run regular, do the ground fix, check battery cables
regularly ...

alarms: scorpio is the best, I have an i900 on mine. it comes with the kill switch and everything else. they have a direct plug in kit for the x. main reason I did it was the fact that I get a NICE $200 drop in my insurance premiums :grin:

but I will agree with exile on that one. park next to a harley and then apologize for making their bike look bad..... :lol:

Alarms don;t work. If they want it bad enough, they will get it. LoJack would be a better way to protect, at least when they take it you'd be able to find it.

Sound is very subjective. What I may like, you may hate. Now you've spent $500 or more on a system that you can't stand the sound of. I've heard this many times over the years on this board.

"I just purchased an exhaust from recommendations from this board and they sound horrible. What do I do now?"

Now, enter your keywords and select a single forum to search in

Select 1, and only 1 "Forum" to search in at a time, or at all.
For example, "Best airbox" I would only search in the "1800 Tech Board"

That's the basic way, you can limit further by using some of the other "Drop-Down" menu's like if you know the thread you are looking for is only a week or so old, etc....

The purpose of the "Search" is to offer a member the opportunity to research his/her question better. There is so much information from past threads that you may never see because that member is no longer here, or doesn't see your new post, or just won't respond to the same question. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the forum. At the top of every board there are threads that are tagged as "Sticky" These threads are "Sticky" because they contain very important/valuable information about the VTX and everyone should read them.
The thread at the top of the 1800 tech board called, "Air, Fuel, Motors..." will answer most of the performance questions...
