Hey guys need some help.

About a week ago I was riding my 2003 1300 to work and it died. When I restarted it seemed like it was running really rich at idle, and I ended up noticing that it was dripping gas out of the air cleaner. To get to work I had a screwdriver and I found a rock on the side of the road and I reached around and I tap the side of the carburetor a few times just to see if it was a stuck float. it seemed to be good for about 60 or 70 miles, and then it did it again.

I took it apart today, I've got the bottom of the carburetor off the float and everything looks fine. I was thinking I might be a gasket or an o-ring above the float, but it's just a rubber arrow tip on the top of the float. Everything seems fine. What do I do? What can I check? I had the carburetor completely apart about a month ago, probably three or four hundred miles ago because I was having an idle problem. I ended up finding some gunk in the idle circuit after the second or third tear down and finally got it all.

Mine is an 03, so it does have a fuel pump. Which at this point I'm going to eliminate. I'm thinking I can just run a fuel line across the top of the motor from the left side where the petcock is into the inlet of the carb. I just have to figure out where I can unplug the fuel pump.​

From my experience with carbs you need to replace the needle and seat. If no replaceable seat then just the needle. It can look fine but will not seal.

Alright. I guess I'll order the allballs racing kit and replace the needle and seat.

Keep us posted. I'm having the same problem with my 2006. Mine has no fuel pump. I have noted I'm having this problem while driving slow in 4th or 5th gear. With slow I mean really slow for a long time especially in city traffic. 30 to 40 miles/hour
I also took apart the carb and found nothing wrong

I usually test small engine carbs and atv carbs with a small hand air pump. With carb off in hand and bowl off. Bowl does not matter, but no fuel. Turn carb upside down so float would be pushing the needle down. DON'T push on the float the get needle to seat!!! I pressurize the inlet with 5 psi if it hold just with gravity holding float then needle is good. Most the time they will hold 8 psi but 5 is minimum. Hope this helps.
