Yeah, I wouldn’t want to live with that asymmetry myself. As was said, you have to jack the front of the bike up, loosen up the triple clamps and with a hammer and a chunk of wood you might be able to smack down the higher side and make them even at the top. Not sure why the shop (that did your steering head bearings?) would’ve done that when they reassembled.

yeah, I just checked in the service manual and the top of the fork tubes should be even with the top of your triple clamps (bridge) and only the fork caps should be above. The manual says the bottom pinch bolts (2 of them) should be torqued to 17 foot pounds and the top (a single bolt) 41 foot pounds.

Info from Bareasschoppers.
If you set the left and right locknuts correctly (per your measurements), then both fork caps should bottom out at the exact same time. I have seen these be “out of whack” from the factory, so if there is a difference in height between the 2 then raise the forks again and fine tune the left fork until both caps bottom out at the same time. If yours happen to need a LOT of adjusting then you can resort to adjusting the right side as well, but only do this if the left side requires so much adjustment that there are less than 3 or 4 threads left to go into the fork cap. Remember to retorque the locknuts and fork caps to 14 ft/lbs when you are finished making adjustments.

I think he wants to avoid doing all that work, but if he should, then the shop that did the job should probably be the ones to remedy this

My guess is that the shop saw that the axle didn't slide in easily because the axle holes didn't line up. This is quite normal because the fork that's a bit longer needs to be compressed a little before installing the axle. That fork tube is the compression side and needs a bit of preload when everything is fitted up. The caps need to be even and flush with the upper yoke.

I was wandering because I'm thinking about getting a VTX1800T and I have noticed they have a gas light on the speedometer faceplate. When duse the Luke come on within 1 gallon of gas or lower
Your last sentence, wording took a bit to understand, but I believe you want to know when the light comes on, and how much fuel you have left or in reserve? The light comes on , depending on how hard it's being run at the time. For instance, my 2003 1800 C, the tank is 4.49 gal., the smallest tank they made, and my light usually comes on between 105-115 mi. on the ODO, and if I fill it a.s.a.p. when the light comes on, it will have used 3.7 or 3.8 gals. That gives me a cushion of 20-25 miles before I'm pushing the bike. And when I fill up, each and every time, I stand the bike up while straddling the seat. Fill to the brim. Your T tank should be around 5.5 gal., I think, so your 'cushion' may be just a bit bigger than mine.

I made the same decision 12 years ago.. The 1800 has FI instead of carb, hydraulic clutch, linked brakes (frt.-rear). And does NOT sound like a HD.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but if you have a 02 C model, you won’t get very far before that light comes on depending on how you ride. Mine comes on at about 90 miles😣.
^^^^Probably true. I'm 72+ and I ride like an old man, so I can get around 115 or so before the light comes on for me with my 4.49 gal. tank.
