Good morning,

I am attempting to replace a leaking fork seal. I have the front wheel off, bridge pinch bolts loosened but am having trouble sliding out the fork.

The top of the fork is about an inch down into the top bridge and it took considerable effort to get it this far. Do I keep on using force? I am afraid I have missed a step. Do the chrome covers have anything to do with this?

The manual is useless at this point and I cannot find anything here where someone else has the same problem.

Thanks for any help.

the chrome covers make it a bitch sometimes when they hang up.

when you put back togeather you will have the same thing get some spray lube and lube them up good befor you attempt to kill them.

what all said plus, sometimes those forks are kinda rusted because the fork covers, plus there's a rubber dust seal at the bottom the forks. You may use a rubber hammer to help you out.

There's a rubber ring in one of the covers. It makes getting the fork tube out a bear. Get a can of silicone spray lube, and squirt it up in there that should get things sliding. I had the same trouble when I took mine apart.

Thanks for the tips fellas. I got the oil seal changed and the fork reassembled, but I have had to stop for the day short of reinstalling the fork into the trees as we are off to get a good seat at the fireworks.

I must say that I could not see anything wrong with the oil seal, so I hope like heck that it was what caused the leak????

I'll get back to it on the weekend.

Happy 4th.
