Front brake locked up!!

206 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Mr. Incredible
Just replaced front pads and on first longer ride I noticed the front brake was dragging thank god I had slowed way down because the locked up totally then after inspection the master was way way low and there was nothing was absolutely no front brake. Strangest part there's no sign of any leaked fluid anywhere. Anybody have any ideas?

You 'boiled' it off. I just replaced front and rear pads so I would pass state inspection next month, and be safe to make 2 upcoming out of state trips. I had a friend do it, who owns his own bike shop. He also changed my clutch and brake fluid, makes sure all is working as it should, and charged me $100 for his labors and fluids. I bought the OEM pads. Your calipers probably seized. Bet they will need re-built.

1800 or 1300?

if is an 1800 you need to properly bleed the linked system, if you don't then I guaranty you didn't add enough fluid to account for the third piston, and it ran dry because the caliper still had air in it.

google it, there are a dozen videos on youtube on how to properly bleed the 1800 linked system.

Did you do anything with the forks>> The left fork has some space to move.
Left fork correction to eliminate brake pad from rubbing.

That worked bled out the whole system till all fluid was clear and now brakes work perfectly. Thanks much..

glad to help, had the same issue awhile back after I rebuilt my 1800, I replaced the calipers, installed steel braided hoses and a new linked manifold and had a hell of a time getting the brakes to work, Thought I knew the process and after being a dumbass for awhile finally watched some videos and realized I was bleeding them wrong.
