Front End Squeaks. 2005 VTX 1300C

219 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  ilumen8d1
This only happens when at low speed (that is when I hear it anyways) and when I am turning either right or left. It sounds like friction and I can not tell if it is bearings or something else. My bike has 12K miles
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you in advance!

Bearings do not squeak for the most part.
Put your left hand on various parts of your 1300C. Fuel tank, speedo unit, etc.
My rear tank bolt and tank flange made a screech at times. I did not push the tank up far enough.

Do you have a windshield? It can reflect sounds.

Mine did that till I replaced Rear Brakes.
Might check all of those.
made like a swish swish noise like something dragging.

Honda OEM brake pads, or aftermarket? Aftermarket are notorious for being noisy, besides being cheaper.

There isn't much in the front end that can 'squeak', but if this is what you hear first thing I would check is binding cables. You should be able to sit on the bike in your driveway and turn your steering full left/right to see if you hear anything.

Check your fork seals to see if they are making any noise when you put weight on the front (roll bike forward and grab the front brake going straight).

Let us know what you find as the cause...

Hello and thanks for responding. Answers to your questions:
  • I have checked out my tank and speedo unit and the squeak does not originate there.
  • I have a short shield and it is very tight and secure.
The odd thing is that I am only aware of this squeaking/rubbing sound is when I am going slow and when turning right or left

Gently tap rear brake next time see if it diminishes or increase.

Will do! If it does diminish, does it mean I need to have brakes adjusted?

Bleed, Clean, Replace as needed.
My 2 cents.

Can you put the bike on a lift and spin the wheel as you listen? Then squeeze the brake?

I don't have a lift. Might have to take it down to the bike shop for that

My bike also makes a "swish" sound in the front. I thought that was normal (break pads slightly touching disc). Is it not normal?
Hydraulic Brakes adjust themselves like cars.

It is actually more of a rubbing sound like two pieces of metal are making contact. My rear brakes were replaced less than 1k miles ago. I did bounce the shocks and did not hear any noise
