Hello to all,
I have a 2004 1800r with 11,000 miles, H&K side burner 2 into 1 exhaust , degass mod and stock air cleaner box. My question to you all is this. I received a bunch of extra parts with my bike when I bought it and one of them was a Dynatek FI controller. I realize it’s an old unit but I have been wondering if I should install this thing on my bike or not. I do plan on getting a different air cleaner housing and also my winter project includes installing a true dual exhaust. Should I put this thing in after the exhaust and intake mods are done or should I just get a more modern unit with better features and usability. And if that is the case , should I dump it or see if someone would be interested in it?

Most will install a fuel manager if they are having de-celleration popping in the exhaust pipes. They enrich the mix at lower speed to eliminate it. As far as performance gains, they are negligible. You can also eliminate most popping by changing the exhaust gaskets when you change or remove the pipes. They may look like they aren't there, but they crush so closely to the walls that it takes some work with a pick tool and lube to get them out. Also, aftermarket pipes have thinner exhaust flanges than stock, so when tightening them to get to 17 lbs/ ft, the acorn nuts bottom out before getting tight enough. This is solved 2 ways, either switch to a regular hex nut, or place a SS flat washer or 2 under the acorn when tightening. Then run a tank of fuel through her and re-torque. Those aftermarket flanges can also become bent or curved if not installed right, make sure they are perfectly perpendicular to the pipe. A friend to help support the end while you put the flange in a vise, and a big pair of channellocks or vise-grips will straighten it.

Thanks for your reply. Bike runs fine.
If it were me, I would toss that out and start with something I know works. It's obviously been on that bike, or maybe he bought it used himself and now just passed junk on to you? It's so old, that company doesn't even make those for the VTX anymore.
thanks, i thought that would likely be the case. The bike runs fine as is and I plan on some major modifications over the winter months anyway. I won’t toss it though. I’ll just hang it on my garage wall with the rest of my garage art. Thanks guys.👍

Just my opinion, but fuel manager or controllers are a waste of money.....you wind up chasing additional problems down the road......de-smog it......popping noises gone.....done

Just like Kurakyn Pro-R Hypercharger Air intake for hundreds of dollars.....another waste of money for the cool factor......nothing more than a rain collector when it is dumping..

Sorry, but again ...just my thoughts....

These bikes are fine as stock....I love my "C".....Vance & Hines Bigshots - Staggered & Kurakyn hand grips...other than that.....stock.....no problems....got 9,000 miles on it....just getting broken it....looking forward to next 90k.....problem free.....all I am saying is that when you start messing with fuel managers and/or air/fuel ratio mixtures....you are just asking for trouble.....why do it ?.........for an extra 3-5 hp's.....maybe....and an extra mile or 2 per gallon..... Forget It... Not worth the time or trouble....

Again, just my 2 cents....

I have a PCIII since without it there was too much backfire even after taking all the measures that rangers4u mentioned.
I alsof have a Hypercharger for fun and not for more Hp and I love it.
Bike runs fiine with a deep exhaust sound from a Road Burner Velocity Pro.
Just my 5 cents since life has become more expensive lately....
