MY 04 VTX1300 IS ACTING AS IT RUNS OUT OF FUEL WHEN IM UNDER HEAVY THROTTLE. RUNS GOOD AT NORMAL RIDING CONDITIONS. ONLY APPEARS WHEN IM PASSING. CLEANED THE CARB, CLEANED THE AIRBOX, NEW SPARK PLUGS, ADJUSTED THE CARB AND CHECKED FOR VACCUM LEAKS. CANT FIGURE THIS ONE OUT.

Does the tank have any rust in it?
There is a small strainer/filter in the
carb fuel hose bib. Also carefully check
the slide valve diaphragm, any tear will
prevent the slide valve from opening fully.

TANK IS RUST FREE, NEW FILTER/SCREEN. SLIDE DIAPHRAM APPEARED TO BE FINE I DIDNT SEE ANY NOTICABLE DAMAGE OR CRACKS. IM WONDERING IF MY FUEL LINE MAY BE COLLAPSING AND NOT LETTING ENOUGH FUEL THROUGH TO THE BOWL CONSTANTLY.

Your fuel line is not under pressure positive or negative, it's just gravity fed so it's unlikely to be a collapsing line.

Is this a new airbox, stock...? Did you check the snorkel section for a mouse nest?

FUNNY YOU MENTIONED THIS, IT IS STOCK AND I DID REMOVE A NEST FROM IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO (AFTER LETTING IT SIT IN THE GARAGE FOR WAY TOO LONG. )

Never saw a fuel line collapse. Is tank fuel vent open? California bike???

Carb Cleaning 101

I wanted to document my carb tear-down, in case anyone wanting to do this with/without the manual could do so pretty easily. I will also have this in Word format to e-mail out to anyone needing it. I did a search for this and didnt find anything like it on the board. It might be somewhere else...

SORRY, OLD WORK/SHOP KEYBOARD WONT TURN CAPS OFF. I AM ORDERING A NEW ONE. I WILL DEFINATELY POST PICS.

THIS PROBLEM STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO WHILE RIDING IN A FUND RAISER. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS OUT OF FUEL BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY HOW IT REACTED. I WAS APPROACHING 95 MPH THEN IT JUST FELL ON ITS NOSE. AFTER STARTING BACK UP IT RAN FINE UNTIL I RAN THE GEAR OUT TO PICKUP SPEED. NEXT TIME IT OCCURRED WAS SIMILAR SITUATION BUT I LET IT GO BACK TO IDLE AND IT CONTINUED TO RUN, BUT HAD LIMITED THROTTLE ( NO MORE THAN HALF THROTTLE) BUT DID CONTINUE DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES I HAD FULL THROTTLE AGAIN UNTIL I RAN THE GEARS OUT, AFTER 3RD GEAR IS WHEN I NOTICED IT THE MOST( SO I HAD 1ST 2ND THEN FELL OUT IN 3RD. )

Fuel flow right of the petcock should have a flow as large as the ID when vacuum applied to the petcock. Vacuum applied should hold the petcock open. One rider used a syringe to
hold valve open.. How many "tees" on the vacuum circuit?

V&H pipes so PAIR valve should have been removed and reed valves capped. Only one vacuum TEE should be in use.

I agree with Hans, I'd check fuel supply to the carb. The whole "had to sit and wait" is often a dead giveaway. Hoping that it's as simple as that. Either the hose or the diaphragm need to be replaced. Should not be hard. Or also some blockage from the tank side. Dirt, rust, anything. Time to check those out.
