Ordering: Salad, hold the mouse this time

DENVER, April 20 (UPI) -- A Denver health food restaurant was revisited by health inspectors Wednesday after a woman found a dead mouse at the bottom of her salad.

The most recent visit was a follow-up by the Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment, who was frantically summoned March 16 by Betty Manion, who made the gruesome discovery.

She told the Denver Post she and a friend were celebrating her birthday at lunch when she felt something "squishy" with her fork in the Bombay salad.

As her vision is not good, Manion asked her friend Louise Nation to look at it.

"I thought at first it was a jalapeno pepper -- it was that size, and it was green," Nation said. "But it was a full-size dead mouse. Looking back on it, it's a wonder I didn't scream."

County environmental health specialist Michael Yoshioka visited the restaurant the same day and recommended upgrades to the building, including adding doors, patching holes, re-plastering walls and repairing the roof.
