Hey guys I need your opinions. My 1800R came with the HK 3's and it sure has that poppy, pingy, air sucking sound that I don't care for. I've just lived with it for the past 4K miles but I am considering getting a different system. Do the VH Big Shots sound deeper and less of that sound?? Or is it just part of the 1800 sound? Let me know what you think!

have an 03 C I put HC 3" on, bought used came with Mike's resonators. On my 05 R I got some VH Bigshots with the quiet baffles. I really like the sound of the VH over the HC. I know on Utube they have the sounds of both but the sound is not like hearing them live.

Sound is very subjective. What I may like, you may hate. Now you've spent $500 or more on a system that you can't stand the sound of. I've heard this many times over the years on this board.

Best thing to do is find your state board from this list; http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/forumdis...aysprune=&f=75
Then find out when & where fellow VTXOA members are getting together and go introduce yourself and have a listen

This is the NEW VTXOA Garage, a sister site to this message board and contains all your How-to/Tips/Tricks/Why’s and links to other helpful sites for your new VTX. http://www.bareasschoppers.com/ A fellow VTX Riders site that has many write-ups on “How-To” do work on the VTX. Also, for you 1300 guys http://vtx1300tips.com/VTX1300TIPS.htm another fellow VTX Riders site.
There is also a helpful Search icon in the users Toolbar just under the VTXOwners Association banner
Click the “Search” drop down and select “Advanced Search”
Now, enter your keywords and select a single forum to search in
Select 1, and only 1 "Forum" to search in at a time, or at all.
For example, "Best airbox" I would only search in the "1800 Tech Board"
That's the basic way, you can limit further by using some of the other "Drop-Down" menu's like if you know the thread you are looking for is only a week or so old, etc....
The purpose of the "Search" is to offer a member the opportunity to research his/her question better. There is so much information from past threads that you may never see because that member is no longer here, or doesn't see your new post, or just won't respond to the same question. So use it to your advantage and enjoy the board! View this funny and informative film about posting and searching…
How To Use This Forum, Click Here
Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the forum. At the top of every board there are threads that are tagged as "Sticky" These threads are "Sticky" because they contain very important/valuable information about the VTX and everyone should read them.
The thread at the top of the 1800 tech board called, "Air, Fuel, Motors..." will answer most of the performance questions...

That sound might be the PAIR valve system working...Most guys remove that crap and chuck it in the corner when swapping pipes...It's just an emissions system that injects fresh air into the exhaust ports on top of each head..A set of $20 block-off plates and an hour or so turning some wrenches will improve the exhaust sound a bazillion percent...

Yeah its a tricky one. I went from a Yamaha Road Star Warrior to a VTX and I miss that sound. I think i will look into blocking it off though.

potato / potato sound

Mike hit on the head:yikes: , if you think any pipes you buy will make this great bike sound like a old harley:doorag: , not ,, will not happen,, i tried everything ,it is all about the crank pins ,,harley and most other bikes ride on a single crank pin ,meaning the rods are on the same crank pin ,(side by side) both at top at the same time ,honda:confused: they went for a better system ,but no potato potato ,:dontknow:

Hey i just plugged the pair valve from the airbox and I was surprised at the difference it made! The CLAPPING sound pops are gone and it sounds much better. I know it will never be a harley and that's just fine with me. I'm gonna keep the HK's. Thanks for the input!
