I found my problem, well I think im on the right track after reading a whole bunch of posts.

I changed my oil 3 days ago switched to spectro 4 full syn 10W40. I found a couple of problems that I did not realize.

1- Spectro you get more oil per bottle 1.056 quarts or 1 liter
2- If i check my oil on my lift it reads different than on the ground held as close to level as possible.

When re-adding oil I put in the first 3 and most of the 4th as normal without realizing the extra oil per bottle. It did not read full yet on the lift after idle and a 5 minute cool, strange I thought but i added the last what i thought would of been 2-3 ounces to the oil and it was fine.

Yesterday at a light I noticed a ticking like a spark plug wire ticking if it were grounding out from the right left spark plug cover area on the jug.
I read where to much oil may cause this noise also so i am starting there to see if that gets rid of it. I also turned muy idle up just a bit it was a little low.

I had 10 ounces to much oil in her for the past 3 days and I am in hope that this will solve the stoped idle ticking noise thats drivin me nuts.

will let you know.

Synthetic sometimes produces a bit more valvle noise. No issue. Valve ticking is a good thing for our VTXs as it measn they are not tight. :)

10 oz too much? Sure builds up pressure in that case... loosen the plug and drain some.

Different reading on stand or stand? Sure. Different "level" of bike. Follow instructions in manual for checking level.

I took a large syringe and sucked out about 9-10 oz of oil. reads right in the middle on the dipstick now.

The reading with the bike on the Sears lift reads a bit different than on the floor with bike held as close to straight as possible.

ran it for about 20 minutes around town a bit and the tick is not as noticeable but is there.

I was running Amsoil before the oil change for the past 20K miles

i am due for a valve adjustment but just sure is strange how it started a day after the oil change.

I'm dealing with some kind of tick from the rear jug on the left side. It seems to be at valve speed, but not always consistent. I can't find it for anything and it's been through a couple of oil changes. Kind of like :
Tick, tick, tick, tick, pause, pause, tick tick tick, pause, tick at valve speed. Wierd eh?

Doesn't start to do it till it's warm. Only 2000 miles on it. I bought it new back in March. Guess I'll take it into the dealer. It doesn't seem to be getting worse so I may wait till the end of the summer. I hate to be without it.

mine had the same tic/tap as cooterdud's, went to the dealer & they said honda would not pay to go in to check it out unless they new for sure something was wrong. so i let it go it finely went away. theres something funny about that rear valve it's so hard to adjust maybe some of us are adjusting it to loose. i'am due for a valve adjustment if it comes back I'll know. hermultra
