1. No, not normal your shock bushings are shot and need replacement
2. Have the part rechromed is only way to fix. It is scars from a keyring flapping around in the wind

Awesome thank you! I called my local stealer and had them order me 4. The bottoms are the same way. With replacing these as long as i get the back tire up off the ground i shouldnt have to compress the shock correct?

sucks about having to have it rechromed. I havnt checked but sounds expensive.

Try using some Brass Wool, and spray it with WD 40. It works great on patina, an might help with your issues.

If you can change your order, this is what you need to order:
Shock bushings--------the green ones52489-HN0-671
instead of:
Be sure to remove your shocks and replace bushings one side at a time!!

Dang it i just now saw this and the dealer is closed. Oh well i will remember for next time. Also of course one side at a time. Seems the only logical way to do it in my mind.

Check the "How To" section.
I did mine in my garage without raising the tire off the floor.
It's been so long, I can't remember If I adjusted the opposite shock up
or down.

They'll (Black ones) wear out in a few thousand miles.

Thanks to this thread I found out why my 2007 with 25,000 miles had a clunk noise at lower speeds going over bumps. This was the worst one top right, but the top left was over halfway worn thru.
