First let me state, I do believe there is a virus. Second, I don't believe it's as bad as even the normal flu.

I use a delivery service, Pea-Pod, to get groceries. They don't carry all the products the store (Stop & Shop) carries,

This is what I found;
No matter where you park, you have to enter the store through 1 entrance, at 1 end of the store, and exit from another door at the other end of the store. The exit door doesn't operate at the entrance, and I assume the entrance door doesn't operate at the exit side.

The aisles now have taped arrows on the floor indicating which way the traffic should flow.
At the "Exit" end of the store, where the frozen foods are, if you're walking to get to the registers, they blocked it so you have to go
all the way to the rear of the store, then come back up another aisle to get to the registers.

If you're wondering, yes, I went around the barrier instead of walking to the rear of the store.
And yes, I exited through the entrance door, 'cause that's where my car was.

They have a kid posted at the entrance telling ppl they have to exit at the other end of the store.

The kid told me I had to exit from the other end of the store.
I suggested he crap in his hat as I went by him.

People are being arrested and convicted for crimes that do not exist

Fearmongering vs. Your Liberties

Has anyone noticed how quickly, and easily, and willingly, Americans gave up their liberties?

It’s baffling. I’m watching otherwise patriotic Americans let their rights slip away as they give into media-driven fear, shame, and guilt. Just look what’s happening around us. The government now says, “Shut down your business – it’s non-essential. You must sacrifice your livelihood to protect the most vulnerable among us.”

It sounds like something we’d hear out of Stalinist Russia.

I think our Founders believed the most vulnerable among us was any individual standing up for his rights against a powerful state. Tragically, people today are rapidly saying, “Okay” to these Constitutionally questionable demands – and we’re watching our rights slip away.

We’re mirroring 1984

As of this writing, at least 38 states have “shelter in place” orders.

Los Angeles is shutting off water and power of any “non-essential” business that doesn’t close. The Virginia Governor is threatening jailtime to people who gather in groups of ten or more. New York’s Mayor is threatening to permanently close any house of worship that continues to conduct services. The National Guard is assisting police to enforce social distancing.

I expect a police state in North Korea. I am shocked beyond words to see it in the United States.

It didn’t have to be this way

In Sweden they’re taking a different tack. Businesses can stay open, they’re just limiting how many people can congregate. In a speech last week, Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said, “We who are adults need to be exactly that: adults. Not spread panic or rumors. No one is alone in this crisis, but each person has a heavy responsibility.”

Imagine if America had leadership like that.

Actually, we probably do, but it’s hard to keep a population calm when you’re fighting two wars at the same time. In addition to the pandemic, the Trump administration is also fighting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her media comrades who are unashamedly whipping up fear and panic to destroy the President’s economic accomplishments.

America could have done things calmly and rationally. There are common sense guidelines, like Sweden is choosing, and then there’s government overreach. Clearly, America moved way too quickly into the latter.

I never thought I’d see Americans give up so willingly and so quickly, just to avoid being called selfish by those who don’t see (or don’t want you to see) what’s going on. Is it possible the increased number of earthquakes happening around the country lately are the result of our Founders rolling over in their graves?

Truth in numbers

Lest anyone accuse me of being the cold-hearted son of an unmarried woman, let’s consider some facts about our current frenzy of fear. US News and World Report was among the many media outlets stirring up fears. In a March 21 piece we read, “A computer modeling report from researchers at Imperial College London that predicted 2 million American deaths unless stringent social distancing measures were enacted may have convinced U.S health officials to take the extraordinary step.”

I’m reminded of what my doctor once told me: “Doctors will always give you the worst-case scenario because they don’t want to get sued if it happens.”

I strongly recommend people watch a half-hour video on YouTube titled, “Coronavirus Covid-19 Fact Not Fear.” Using facts from the World Health Organization and information from countries around the world, the video shows “2 million American deaths” is a “deliberately unrealistic worst-case.” Why? It assumes every American will not only be exposed to the virus, but every American will also get sick from it. Not everyone will get the virus, and not everyone who does gets sick.

People should also read an excellent article at PJ Media, titled, “What the Media Isn’t Telling You About the United States’ Coronavirus Case Numbers.” Author Matt Margolis does a superb job of showing the real story from what the numbers are telling us.

It’s my personal opinion that Dr. Anthony Fauci, known as “the nation’s top infectious disease expert” and one of Trump’s advisors on this matter, is practicing worst-case scenario fearmongering. He convinced Trump to extend the “shelter” guidelines through April on the possibility of 100,000 – 200,000 American deaths from the virus. It this possible? Anything is possible, but Fauci’s numbers are highly unlikely. A regularly updated tracking page showing global impact of COVID-19 shows that, at the time of this writing, 57,000 deaths have occurred worldwide, and that’s with China, Italy, and South Korea already tipping their curve.

The purpose of the panic

One thing is true about life: There’s always a bigger picture. When we step back from the whipped-up media frenzy and look at a timeline of events, we see that the Trump administration declared a public health emergency on January 31, smack dab in the middle of impeachment hearings.

Then, after Trump was acquitted on February 5, Democrats continued their attacks on Trump. They criticized his budget. They accused him of abuse of power. They accused him of politicizing the intelligence community. They even criticized him for restricting travel to and from China, accusing him of fostering “racist panic.”

Not until Trump appointed Vice President Pence to oversee the coronavirus task force on February 22 did Pelosi and company realize they were missing an opportunity to criticize him for that, too. When they realized they could weaponize a drop of virus-infected blood against the President, Leftist sharks unleashed their attacks on Trump with a new level of fury.

That’s right. The purpose of the media frenzy is not about the virus. It’s to create fear and panic and smear President Trump. They want to create doubt among voters that President Trump is capable of dealing with the crisis.

Trashing our rights to get votes

Constitutional rights be damned. The Left is playing on every ounce of fear, guilt, and shame they can stir up in order to destroy Trump’s economic successes.

They don’t care if you lose your job. They don’t care if you lose your car. They don’t care if you declare bankruptcy or have to permanently close your business. They don’t care that you are being made to give up your rights without reason and or that it may drive you to suicide.

That last statement is not hyperbole. According to Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, the shutdown of society is increasing the risk of suicide. This is backed up by the World Economic Forum’s study on the link between unemployment and suicide. Is that playing out? According to The Federalist, “Knox County, Tennessee saw nine deaths by suicide within 48 hours this week as doomsday predictions over the novel Wuhan coronavirus panics an already anxious public and leaves millions unemployed and isolated.” And that’s just one county.

The Left is trashing our rights. They even try to destroy your hope. It’s hard to decide which is worse: Them destroying our rights, or the fact that they’re doing so by manipulating the population through fear, guilt and shame. They don’t care. All that matters to them is you blaming Trump for these problems. They need you to believe Donald Trump is the wrong man for the job, and if your Constitutional rights must go away to make that happen, so be it.

Will Trump Betray Us after Corona?

Some people are stunned that government using computer models to predict high coronavirus deaths has many Americans willing to gift Democrats and fake news media their lifelong dream of ending the U.S. Constitution. Panic-stricken citizens want everyone non-compliant with immediate dictatorial government demands thrown into jail.

Consequently, Democrats are behaving like power-drunk pirates, raping and pillaging our God-given and constitutional freedoms. Incredibly, New York mayor de Blasio has threatened to close places of worship forever. Virginia governor (supreme dictator) Northam decreed that residents stay at home until June 10, after the June 9 Republican primary.

Despite practicing CDC guidelines, a pastor was arrested for opening his church while the nearby Home Depot was packed with people. Planned Parenthood dead-baby-body-parts-chop-shops deemed essential are allowed to remain open.

Across America, thousands of inmates are being released from prison because of the coronavirus. Disease-infested tent city vagrants ignore corona restrictions while violators of stay-at-home orders are arrested. Democrats always handle illegal aliens, criminals, and those who are irresponsible with velvet gloves while bludgeoning law-abiding citizens with an iron fist.

Drunk with corona-power, Barack Obama, Andrew Cuomo, and Nancy Pelosi are exploiting the virus to pressure Trump to fund a laundry list of unrelated extreme leftist pet projects.

The big question that concerns many is, will our constitutional rights be restored after corona? Can the Democrat/Deep State evil genie be put back into the bottle? Will President Trump betray us by rubber-stamping the Deep State's illegal, extreme power-grab-as the "new normal"?

I think not. Trump is not one of them. He is one of us.

Candidate Trump was a non-ideological "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" kind of guy, expecting bipartisan support to do whatever is best for America and We the People. His agenda has not changed. President Trump will fight to restore our God-given and constitutional freedoms.

Like you, I did not enjoy hearing that America will not reopen before April 30. However, I understand the situation. Fear is a powerful thing. Due to 24/7 apocalyptic coronavirus reporting, fake news media pretty much hold the emotions of millions of Americans in the palm of their sleazy, evil, anti-Trump hand.

Wisely, Trump is allowing another month for Americans to become fed up with house arrest and realize that computer models are not gospel and the sky is not falling. We are Americans. We overcome everything. God is with us.

Due to the extreme unprecedented situation, I am fine with the $2-trillion bailout. The American people did not irresponsibly put themselves into this predicament. We give billions to countries and people who hate our guts. Why not lend a hand to our own?

Democrats are salivating over the possibility of the bailout being the first taste of addicting Americans to the deceptive unfulfilling drug of socialism/communism. Because of who Trump is and who we are, America will not become a socialist/communist country.

Treasonous fake news media coronavirus reporting is intended to generate fear, panic, and hatred for Trump. Fake news media tried to shame "My Pillow Guy" Mike Lindell for expressing his faith in God during a White House briefing. A majority of Americans respect and appreciate our patriot brother Mike for his contribution to fight the virus. We are a Christian nation. God promises that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

Folks, I do not fear the coronavirus, nor the loss of America as we know it.

Some will say, Lloyd, you're an idiot for not worrying. Alcoholics Anonymous warns against imagining, when something negative happens, that it will cause a chain reaction of other negative things to happen. Suddenly, that person is foolishly jumping off a bridge based solely on his imagined coming catastrophe. The Bible says worrying about something you cannot change is unwise.

"Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path" (Proverbs 3:5–6). Please do not misunderstand me. Trusting God does not mean we should passively allow out-of-control fear to flush our economy down the toilet. President Trump must get Americans back to work ASAP.

Meanwhile, my wife Mary and I are frequently washing our hands, using sanitizer, limiting our shopping, and catching up on long overdue projects around our house. After much research on YouTube, I painted our bedroom dark gray. It looks awesome!

Romans 8:28 promises that as Christians, God is working all things for our good. So I feel great, enjoying my lovely wife of 40 years and enjoying my creative projects.

Our hope for a greater, stronger and restored America rest in trusting God and our president.

Those whom would betray us after Corona already actively do so, and on an almost daily basis, and have been doing so for quite some time. Like numerous simultaneous acrid effluvia stretching all the way across this once great country from east to west and rising upward, the vile foul stench of treason in the air clouds the senses of every breathing thing on the land and is polluting the Heavens as well. How long before this ghastly odor fills the nostrils of the Creator Himself. ?

''Corona Cows''

The country is under slow-motion house arrest on the now-limitless authority of people who didn’t even have to march on Rome to snatch it.

Because we gave it to them. The Corona Cows, at any rate – who are willing to mosey down any chute, as directed. Moo! Mooooooo!

Because Corona!

It is the Universal Reason for Everything now. No work, no job, no money – no movement, even. Unless you are “essential” – which of course almost of all of us who aren’t government workers aren’t, as defined by government workers. It’s a nice business to have the power to decree yourself “essential” – and immune from the life-ending restrictions imposed at gunpoint on the Corona Cows.

Maybe we should stop being cows. The way is easy. Stop being cowed. Take a stand. Go outside – and go for a drive, even if you don’t need groceries and are not “essential” in the eyes of the New Mussolinis.

Is this risky? Certainly. The question is, it necessary? And – are we pussies?

I grow weary of hearing how “brave” Americans are because I see little evidence of it. Whereas I see endless examples of American slavishness. A willingness to accept anything on the basis of nothing – or very little.

A bug that has killed a few thousand people. That’s serious. But the response has been ridiculous.

But, entirely predictable if you understand that our right to assume risk has been under assault for decades.

It was just a month or so ago that I wrote about the absurdity of soaking down the roads with liquid brine in case it might snow. Not because it was actually snowing. The slightest possibility – and roll the trucks.
Because you can’t be too saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafe!

It’s merely one of many examples of a country effeminized – and paralyzed. By fear. Dread of risk. We’re forced to meekly accept force-stops by armed government workers and produce our “papers.”
Not because we’ve done anything but because someone might have.

This was before Corona Fever struck.

Grown men told they must “buckle up” for saaaaaafety – or else be hit with electric cattle prods (no coincidence) dragged out of their vehicle and possibly shot.
Again, for saaaaaaaaaaaaaafety.

Parents Hut! Hut! Hutted! for letting their kids play outside by themselves. A whole city “locked down” because two guys committed a crime. (Boston. Remember?)

Now Americans are Corona Criminals – told they may not leave their homes anymore – or else. Can’t go out to dinner. Can’t go to church.
Can’t do anything – other than cringe and narc out those who don’t.

Did the nukes just fall? No, a few thousand people have succumbed to a bug. A large percentage of these are people who would have succumbed to old age soon, regardless. The point being it is not the Advertised Black Death of Millions.

But it is sufficient to retract the testicles of practically every male in this nation of 330 million.

Americans have become pussies run by bullies.
Let’s put a stop to that.

I am going to do my part by going out – in defiance of the Coonman, who just ordered me not to. Because that is essential, to me. It is necessary for me to be free, as opposed to saying the word, without any meaning behind it. To assume risk – if it exists – as my free choice.

If we accept being placed under house arrest without our even having been arrested for anything – much less convicted of anything – then what freedom have we got? The freedom to do as we are told.

It makes me ill – and mad.
I won’t have it.I hope you won’t have it, either.

And if you are with me, none of us will have to have it.

Don’t be a Corona Cow. Don’t be a pussy. Is the chance you might get sick worth giving up your life? If it is, then stay home – by all means. “Shelter in place.” Shutter your business, withdraw.

May your cattle bell rest lightly around your neck.

But pardon me while I live my life – even if it means risking it. That is my decision – just as it is yours.

It most definitely isn’t theirs.

First let me state, I do believe there is a virus. Second, I don't believe it's as bad as even the normal flu.

That being said, it's an opportunity for certain segments of our society to "Take Control".

I use a delivery service, Pea-Pod, to get groceries. They don't carry all the products the store (Stop & Shop) carries,
so every once in a while I actually go to the store, which I did today.

This is what I found;
No matter where you park, you have to enter the store through 1 entrance, at 1 end of the store, and exit from another door at the other end of the store.

What' was the problem , not enough juice in your mobility scooter
or was it too far for you to waddle?

Blue state police state: Local officials cook up boatload of stupid COVID-19 restrictions

The Trump administration is largely freeing the economy of regulations to ensure that America can beat back the coronavirus. The FDA's latest act, lifting a federal ban on imported masks to ensure that hospitals get the personal protective equipment they need, is just the latest in this pattern of extending liberty. The FDA's swift approval of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for emergency use on gravely ill patients, as well as other deregulatory freeings, are also the hallmarks of Trump administration leadership.

But then there are the lefty politicians in blue cities and states, often claiming to be on the same team as Trump, who have an entirely different set of instincts.

They're doing what lefties do, which is tighten the grip.

It's not just freeing criminals from jails, while banning gun sales for the law-abiding, something a court smacked down Los Angeles for.

It's a host of pointless and unenforceable restrictions on the public that require a police state to enforce, a police state they don't have and aren't entitled to.

Here are three new stupidities that use such sledgehammers on the public when simple persuasion would do.

From the International Business Times:
The state of Vermont is now asking big box retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Costco to stop selling nonessential items such as electronics, toys, and clothing during the coronavirus pandemic.
Vermont’s Agency of Commerce and Community Development issued the order to all retailers in the state that sell food, beverage, and pharmacy items to help reduce the number of people coming into stores.
The agency said that these big box retailers must cease selling nonessential items that are not listed in the executive order, which includes arts and crafts, beauty, carpet and flooring, clothing, consumer electronics, entertainment items such as books, movies, and music, furniture, home and garden supplies, jewelry, paint, photo services, sports equipment, toys, and other nonessential items.
Right. You're in a house full of bored kids who are done with their online classroom lesson and somehow you get them some toys to keep them busy when you make your next meat and milk run. Or some sports equipment to keep them busy in the back yard. What kind of idiocy is this? No arts and crafts? That keeps people in quarantine busy, too. I was particularly disgusted to see that seeds were on the 'banned' list. Seeds are perishable, same as fruits and vegetables, so the seeds will go to waste. And the thing is, gardening is a wonderful way to pass the quarantine time away, it keeps people at home, fascinated with growing things, and if it's vegetables they're growing (some get to harvest point pretty fast) it's a secondary food source, and yet another reason to stay home. It's also good exercise, inherently socially distanced. They had to ban seeds?

Who are these clowns who made these ignorant lists and demanded retailers follow them to their own detriment? And why are police forces, which have plenty to worry about these days, now responsible for enforcing this pointless garbage? So long as people socially distance, there is no reason why they can't pick up the kinds of extra supplies they might need beyond eating. This is the work of micromanaging bureaucrats who don't understand a thing about what people need and who are flexing their totalitarian instincts.

Here's another stupidity, from Los Angeles again, that place that can't clean up its homeless population, from Breitbart News:
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) is encouraging residents to report businesses that violate the city’s stay-at-home order aimed at combating the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.
“If any non-essential businesses continue to operate in violation of the stay at home order, we’re going to act to enforce the safer at home order and ensure their compliance,” Garcetti said at a Tuesday press briefing.
Store sales don't cause COVID-19, the issue is social distancing. Two people can be on a sidewalk and not social distance, why is that worse than being in a store? Why open the box to disgusting little snitch rewards? This is classic East German spying, and it's going to lead to no good.

The issue is social distancing, and stores here in San Diego now enforce that with six-foot tape markers, masks, gloves and plexiglass screens for cashiers. Consumers, meanwhile, are social distancing as per the recommendations, wearing masks and gloves, and keeping to the distances.

I also wonder who these people are who are running these stores that haven't shut? This being Los Angeles, odds are they're not the big boxes most people go to, but the smaller bodegas and tiendas run by illegals, who won't be getting stimulus checks. I make a special point to patronize those since there are some I like and want to see remain in business, and I know they aren't getting stimulus checks. These establishments enforce the same social distincing requirements as anyone else. Might that be the same instinct going on in Los Angeles? Seems like it.

Here's another one, from New York, reported by Reason magazine:
New York City is asking its citizens to report other people to the authorities for failing to abide by social distancing orders. This is an unnecessary—and authoritarian—escalation of the city's coronavirus response.
"The City has enacted public health social distancing restrictions to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus," states the government's non-emergency services website. "You can report a violation in progress for the City to enforce as appropriate." As examples of the kinds of things that people should report, the city lists non-essential businesses remaining open, and overcrowding in general.
Again, more wasted police resources on something that's impossible to enforce, and therefore unlikely to be enforced, except in 'kill the chicken to scare the monkey' manner. That's some kind of reign of terror now that everyone around you is a spy. That's some formula for building social trust. What works best, and I've seen it myself, is for everyone out there to simply call out those who aren't social-distancing. "Six feet!" or "hey, social distancing" work very well at my local Wal-Mart here in San Diego. People know and understand, so there is no need turn the country into a police state, which in any case won't work.

It's beyond stupid because it won't work, and it's contrary to the great sense of national unity built up by the Trump administration as we all recognize we are all in this together. Leave it up to the blue state lefty pols to try to turn the U.S. into Cuba, where neighbor spies on neighbor and every purchase is watched. They need to be called out and forced to knock it off.

Imagine you are an elderly or GOD forbid handicapped individual, and you have to stand in a line outside Walmart grocery for an hr. or more, in the cold or rain, because you were a conscientous individual who DIDN'T HOARD the last time or 2 you went there.

Beware The Creeps Who Enjoy Their New Pandemic Power

The problem with people referring to this bizarre pandemic life limbo as “the new normal” is that there are people out there, both in and out of positions of responsibility, who are digging this opportunity to boss us around. And it is troubling to see that there are a number of prominent folks who are in no hurry to curtail their ability to boss us around. We need to note carefully who these people are and ensure that they never get a chance to control anything again.

You are starting to see more of that as this drags out. You have got Nancy Pelosi, Gavin Newsom and others thinking this is a great time to get our socialism on. You also have functionaries – all of whom are still getting paychecks – who are way too eager to start issuing orders instead of relying on citizens to behave rationally. We don’t need to be ordered around, but they can’t resist the ordering. The moron mayor of LA is offering rewards to freedom narcs, and government hacks making stores refuse to sell “non-essential” items – what the hell they are thinking telling us what is and is not “essential” anyway? They are thinking, “Hey, this power stuff is fun!” Which is why you should never give power to someone who enjoys it.

The mainstream media, when it’s not otherwise engaged in covering for the bat-eating ChiComs and ignoring the credible #MeToo allegations against ole Grandpa Badfinger, is cheerleading to shut down the entire country. Of course, just because New Yorkers live on top of each other in a festering urban petri dish does not mean everyone else does, but who cares? If those urban swells have to sit tight in their crappy walk-ups watching Netflix, so do those folks out in Jesusland, damnit. Also, they feel the need to close the gun stores since the manly act of purchasing equipment to defend one’s self, family, community, and Constitution shames the liberal sissies whose low-T lifestyle keeps them from doing their duty.

Even some randos are joining in. We have all seen vids of bossy people on the street screaming at other people who refuse to truss up their pieholes like suburban banditos. The proper response to the Junior G-men (most of whom appear to be hard five chicks named “Karen”) is to invite them to do to themselves what their husbands cannot or will not do.

And there’s that video of mortified deputies waiting on an LA beach for some surfer to come back to the sand, because being alone in the Pacific is basically condemning millions to infection or something. What it really constitutes is defiance, not danger, which our midwit overlords cannot abide. And just imagine that you signed up to be a cop thinking you’d live Heat and instead you’re popping Spicoli for riding some tasty waves.

We’re gonna have to take him in the water. Wait till he’s all in. Get clean shots. Watch your background.” (BTW, I will be discussing Heat and other stuff you should watch while incarcerated on my next Townhall VIP podcast “Unredacted”).

What is particularly troubling are the medical experts who gleefully demand months of our continued imprisonment. They can’t seem to understand that the medical angle is only one component of this situation. Yes, it’s an important one. So is not creating a depression. Now, there’s nothing shocking that medical people will look at a situation from a purely medical perspective. Back in Kosovo, when my appendix decided to vapor lock, they told me “The surgeon is out doing a MEDCAP (helping locals) and we want to wait until he gets back to see what he wants to do,” to which I replied, “What do you think the surgeon is going to want to do?” They thought about it for a second then prepped me for the OR.

But the medical perspective is not the only perspective. There are other perspectives that need to be considered, like the economy and our liberty, and so we elect people to consider them. See, this is why we are not a technocracy. We are a republic. We normal citizens get the final say in our country’s priorities, and we may not decide that our priorities are exactly the same as Dr. Fauci’s. I, for one, am willing to accept some risk regarding the infection in order to avoid America degenerating into a Road Warrior scenario – unless I can be the Humungous, who really gets a bad rap for his innovative and focused leadership style.

Adults accept risk when balancing various interests. The idea that “It’s not worth one life” is childish and stupid. We have cars. Cars kill 30K people a year. We accept that risk. What’s the proper risk balancing for the Chinese coronavirus? Well, we as citizens need to figure that out. That process is called “politics.” That’s why whenever anyone tells you that “This is no time for politics,” they really mean they don’t want you to have any input into the decision. Without politics, you have a dictatorship, and that seems to be the unspoken theme of a growing number of elected officials and others.

But Americans are not good at being bossed around – well, liberal college grads are, but the rest of us aren’t weak-sauce geebos.

America is really run by consent. When we citizens agree that a policy was duly enacted through the proper processes and makes some semblance of sense, we obey voluntarily. Our tax system is essentially voluntary – it depends on people being generally honest. Sure, there are audits after, but while most people may grumble about the rates, paying our share is legit and so we generally try to figure out what we owe under the law and pay it. Have you ever driven at 3 am and seen people stop at STOP signs at empty intersections? It’s a legit law, so we accept it and obey it instead of having to have a cop right there to force us. Having lived on a couple of other continents, I can assure you that is not how every country works.

That’s why power-hungry jerks can actually harm our collective response. If the actions to ameliorate the pandemic begin to be seen as illegitimate and oppressive, we’ll stop doing them. Moreover, we need to show that these are temporary measures and we are going to lift them as soon as we can. You can see that President Trump is chomping at the bit to throw off the shackles of the pandemic response. Pretty soon, most everyone will be. We are all in when we see the response makes sense, but as this goes on with no light at the end of the tunnel and more power-hungry jerks getting off on getting on our backs, that will change. The fact that the grimmest Bat Soup Disease predictions have not come true will only accelerate this natural backlash. There’s a fuse on America’s patience, especially with the aspiring nanny-staters, and when it burns to the end look out.
