Monkey bars are on!! -- To you guys who can internally wire bars, change them along with the cables, hose & grips in 4 hours.... I hate your freakin guts!! It took me about 15 hours to do it!!! :x Oh well, they're on now! Just had time to take a few pics and go for an hour ride, before the rain started. My Apes are 16" x 1.5" Big Buffalo by Drag Specialties -- they totally changed the ride of my bike! I sit square on the saddle. I no longer have to reach forward and the bike is a lot more stable at both low and high speed! Beside, they look totally wicked! Did I mention that I hate you guys who can change bars in 4 hours? Well.... boy, I really do!!!  Now if it can only stop raining long enough for me to enjoy the bike rally tomorrow....

Yeah man they look really good. Now that you've had them for a couple of days how do you think they feel?

Hey dude! It's like a totally different bike! I find that it's much more stable at low speed, and they force me to sit squarer on the seat, making it more comfortable. I had read that slow speed handling, in areas such as parking lots would be more difficult, but I'm finding the opposite... the bike handles better in all circumstances!! Love my apes! I'm glad I decided to go for it!

I've never had a chance to ride one with the apes on it, it looks like it would be awkward to handle. If I get a chance I will try and ride one with that set-up just because it looks interesting.

The comfort factor was serendipitous, as I liked them first for their bad a$$ look! You're doing the right thing, in trying some on for size, before making the leap. I tried a friend's softail with 14" Apes and liked it, and was pleasantly surprised by the comfort! Although, I thought I should get about 2'" more rise to be comfortable. Turns out I was spot on... 16" Apes fits me like a glove! I went with the massive 1.5" and don't regret the extra $$$ since they do the VTX justice!

Thats a great job Flood, really adds to your ride. Keep up the good work. I am glad that you are happy with the out come and the way your bike handles with the new addition. And this is comming from a guy with Beach Bars

Thanks BlackJack! You know what man? I just pictured your super slick Retro, with a set of 13" Apes, and let me tell ya, your bike would be sizzling!! It's already in the top 5 best looking Retros on this board man!! A set of Apes would grab the "BlackJack mobile" first place..................WORD!!!

Lookin' good! I know what you mean about the internal wiring "timeframe". I lost count in how long it took me to do it, but I learned two things from it:

1. The end result was worth it.
2. I'll never do it again.

Thanks dude! I pretty much came to the same conclusions!!!

It's a good feeling, when you test it out and everything works... isn't it?

Yeah, I was wondering the whole time whether I cut a wire while pulling them through the bars. Once I soldered the plugs back on and hooked everything back up, it was such a relief when all the lights came on and worked. The only thing I worry about now is if one of my turn signal mirrors craps out, because I pulled those lines through, too. There's no way I can just pull that line out of the bars and then try to fish a new one through. I guess if one/both dies, I'll just change to some other type of mirror. I can live with that if it ever happens.

Mr...yeah, I'm dreading doing the intrenal wiring this winter. I know it'll be the one step at makes it look all the better, but I dread a small mistake or cut. But I should be fine.

Floodgate,

Nice job on the apes.....looks swaaa----eeett on the orange. How long have you ridden for in one ride...time wise????

So far 90 minutes (only had them for 3 days now) and I felt no discomfort what-so-ever! My 1800c seat feels a lot more comfy. I don't have to reach forward anymore, I sit straight on the saddle. The 16" puts my hands just below the shoulder level... MaxChaos has the same setup, and he recently completed a 17 hour trip!!

I had a protac on my 750 ACE and loved it! Thinkin about puttin one on my X too. Don't know what it was about it I liked so much other than it made it feel like you were sittin "in" the bike instead of "on" it. Think ur gonna love it! :D
