I'm starting to look around for a new leather jacket. I really like the old Chicago Police jackets....collared, single breasted, leather, etc....

Anyone know of a place where I can get one?

Doesn't look like it offer much protection in a crash.

Get a Horse Hide Highway style for that. Schott, Vanson, & Bates make some nice ones. Schott offers different body heights for different models.

The best of the best http://www.langlitz.com/ they've been taylor making motorcycle jackets since 1947. More $$'s but nothing matches their quality! I had one made in 1981 and I'm using it today...

(What Leather Thickness Does Langlitz Use?
lightweight leather ranges from 2.5 to 2.75 oz. Medium weight starts at 2.75 and extends to about 3.5 oz. Heavy weight tends to be about 4 oz, give or take a half ounce.)

If you know this, cool... posting it for someone else. If you don't know, if you're buying "cheap" leather be sure to see if you can find out how thick the leather is. If it's less than 1.2 it's probably close to worthless in a crash. if it's a LOT less, it's REALLY worthless. 1.4 is better.

Johnson Leather Corp. here in San Francisco is very well known in California and environs. They make custom leather jackets for about a dozen law enforcement departments including the California Highway Patrol (CHP). I had the one in the pics below (2 different days by the GG Bridge) custom made. GOOD quality leathers; they'll cut it anyway or add pockets, linings, virtually ananything you want. Of course they'd prefer to take your measurements in their store, but you can buy over the internet too.

If you want high quality I'd look at Vanson or Schott. Fox Creek is pretty good, but I don't care for any of their styles. Langlitz is awesome, but aren't they close to $1,000? I've got a Vanson Comet and it's a really nice jacket. I'm having a hard time breaking it in; it'll still stand up on it's own after almost a year. It's tough though, to find any of these brands below retail. I lucked out on my Vanson on e-bay.

You can't go wrong with a mc jacket made by First Motorcycle Leather Co. Particularly their Xpert line. They use heavy 1.2mm - 1.5mm naked cow hide and they come with soft and hard armor.

Just do a google on Xpert motorcycle jacket and you'll find a few good internet stores with them. I think I got mine for a decent price at: http://www.aleather.com/
