So, I was doing a nice wash and wax on my 1300R today and realized that the left rear fastening hardware for my Paladin removable backrest was missing.

I had the backrest installed by the dealer where I bought the bike. What should I expect from them? Will they replace it free of charge? Should they have the spacers, pieces and bolt in stock?

My main concern is knowing what a good dealer should do. I don't want to go in with unreasonable expectations. However, I also don't want to get treated badly and not even realize it.

Let me know your thoughts and experience please.

Thanks much

I've owned the same Paladin backrest/luggage rack combo which are made by National Cycle (as well as their Cruiseliner hardbags) for almost 4 years now. I had a bolt problem with the hardbags and called NC's toll-free number asking how I might get a replacement(s). I was upfront with them and emphasized that I was the original owner, loved their stuff (i.e., a little flattering, etc.).

They immediately asked for my bike's year and model info looked up what I'd need and said they'd send me an entire new package of bolts the next day (standard delivery). It was their entire bag of bolts for the hardbags and I believe normally ran around $30 but they didn't hesitate in committing to satisfy me and send it out. So I'd rate their customer service as extremely good.

Must be a diiferent division that handles the backrests versus the saddlebags that I have.....They told me to basically go pound salt when I contacted them about my bags wanting to release themselves from the bike.......and that was after they admitted they have had people complaining.

Dealership didn't know squat

As usual Cedar Creek Motors was little to no help. Called National Cycle and for the bargain basement rate of about $20, I can get the spacers, washers and bolt I need shipped to me.

Need being the operative word. Missus won't ride with me without the backrest.

So, they'll get my $20 and hopefully I'll get the parts in a reasonable amount of time.

National Cycle sent me a price of $4.50 each for the bolts I needed. But they also sent the size. I will get mine at the hardware store. I have the spacers, etc. but the previous owner mucked up a couple of the bolts.

My left bag and bracket are somewhat crooked and I don't like the looks. I will fix or replace the set until they are RIGHT!
