Folks:
I know I'll get flamed for not doin my own work but I really do not enjoy it! I have an appointment this weekend up at Daddy O's for an oil change. My scoot has 3300 miles and the oil seems nasty, so I decided it was time. The 600 mile service was done by a local Honda dealer (as you guys suggested) but I decided to give Karen a try for this oil change as they are close to home.

My question: While it's there, what items should I have them check over in addition to the oil change? Battery connections? Clutch adjustment? Brakes?

Tony,

Just ask John, he's a stand up guy- little strange but stand up. Karen is a doll- tell her the jewish santa says hi.

Ah Tony....no one ever said they really enjoyed doing their own (I do it myself on both bikes, but oh what a PITA it can be! However the PepsX stand and a decent jack make all the difference in the world!!!), but yes, there is a certain satisfaction you get when doing so....must be a test-tos-a-roni thingy

Heard nothing but good positive things about Daddy O's while down there - just never got around to trying them out.

Like Gonzo said, check your manual and have them run up the bill from there! :p

Hey Tony, It's pretty well spelled out in the OM. Check it out, it's under the seat in the tool box.
Gottit... but is seems incomplete. For example, I'd like them to tighten the battery terminals as I heard that they can loosen and affect your odo. I'd like my clutch cable inspected and even a test ride. Hey, I think the bike runs good but have nothing to compare it to. These things/items are not in the book.

And I wouldnt call it t toolbox either. I got a screwdriver and an open end wrench... TOTAL!!!

You probably don't want to hear this but here it goes.
That's kind of the reason why it's good to know a little about your scooter. Knowing how to take the seat off and having the tools on the bike to do it. An allen head wrench and a socket(10mm) gets the seat off. At least you get yourself out of a jam if the battery cable comes loose or need to jump start the bike. If you can take the seat off, 3 more phillips head screws for the battery cover and you can tighten the cables yourself.
Always good to have a multi tool(like a Leatherman) & some tie wraps thrown in with your little tool kit. They can also get you out of jam(ask Normie). Nothing worse then being out on 27 between here and the lake in the middle of the day by yourself with a battery cable loose and not being able to tighten it. Also, keep an eye out for when Claudio has the tech session, bring your bike any one of us will help you out.

This is good advice. I need to just breakdown and just do it. I have all the tools in my garage. I built a pro street car as a kid but I have gotten very lazy in my middle age. Plus I am more nervous to srew up my scoot than my car. The consequences are more dire. Guess I need a little more confidence.

I'll try to make the next tech session... prob is that the last few have been too far for me (ie Kevin K.). I have some neck problems and have only worked my way up to 100 mile rides (total).

Doc told me 10 years ago that I wouldnt be able to walk, play tennis or ride after the operation. He was wrong. I have a rock head!

Thanks for the advice. Well... I'm off to Daddy O's!!!

Awsome experience at Daddy O's today.

Karen and her hubbie are great. I gave credit for the referral to all you guys here, but mentioning "Jewish Santa" (Steve) put her over the top. She even showed me the picture.

And yes, the battery connections WERE loose.

Good people,
Good work,
Great price...
One happy camper here.

Thanks guys,

Tony

Oh and my first 25 mile ride today in a hurricane type downpour. Rained like a MF'er. Starts out no fun, then becomes fun, then begins to totally suck as you get close to home.
