Can anyone tell me why I have to put my 1300S in neutral to start the engine? This started a couple of months ago. I have added alot of chrome to the bike, but cant figure out if any of this caused the problem.

Kuryakyn levers?

The nub on the lever is too large to allow the clutch switch to function. Fix is to grind it down a little.

Poi...

Is it exhausting to have your mind cluttered with correct answers?

I'm amazed.

So the bike should start in any gear not just neutral? Mine only starts in N. Dealer stated this is a safety feature. any thoughts!
It will start in any gear, if the clutch is in and kickstand is up. If kickstand is down, it won't start....unless theres something new on there preventing from starting in gear...If your at a red light that turns gren and you stall it, you want to be able to start and go without searching for neutral....

Your dealer is an idiot!!! I have an 05' 1300 R and mine starts just fine with the kickstand up and the clutch in, in any gear. You may have a loose connection somewhere.

I may be missing something here but why is the heck would you want to start in gear??? I did that once and of course forgot it was in gear! I let the clutch out and... lets just say that I can't imagin what thoes rodeo guys go through!

I can understand if your parking on a steap incline but other than that I'd leave her in neutral anyway!

Main time I have had to start in gear is when I come up to the first light from my house, the bikes still cold and the idle is kinda low (where I like it)...The bike will sometimes stall upon decel @30mph! I hit the start button, rev it a little and go on...I really don't want to be moving in traffic in neutral

I recently had the same problem and I have the Kury levers......for over a year.....one would think the problem should start right away.....the answer is the clutch switch......try this..........take the two black wires from the clutch switch and with the kickstand up and the bike in gear., and the clutch lever pulled in, .....touch them together as you start the bike......if it starts, it's the clutch switch........dealer didnt believe me till I brought the bike in and showed it to them.....fix is around $14 and takes 5 minutes, unless you still have it under warrenty then it's free!!
