Yeah but that is probably true........he probably measured 18.5" outside lip to outside lip directly accross......you have to remember the lip is prolly 3/4" which would make it a 17" wheel (where the tire actually beads to the wheel).

ive seen many people on ebay do the shipping scam...
actual shipping is usually half of what they ask for..
many times they actually make more from shipping than they did from the item they sold..

I ran into the same thing at Christmas...I was going to buy my daughter a Ipod and found them on ebay, someone had a bunch of them for sale in St. Louis, I'm only about 40 east of there and I go there often so I sent them a e-mail and ask if I could pick it up and they told me no but they would ship it for $15. I went ahead and bought it somewhere else.

Being a long time ebay user let me tell you my experience on this. I have attempted local pickup before. Half of the time, they don't want to pay until they pick it up. Secondly, you don't know who the heck is coming over. Also, you can spend 2 days waiting for someone to show up and cancel all your daily apts so they can save $40! ... So I decided no local pickup. I'd rather not sell the thing than do another one.

When I sell stuff on ebay I will NOT allow local pick up. Here is why.
The world has changed drastically and there are a lot of dangerous loonatics out there, and there is no way I will let anyone I do not know come to my house. Next time you turn down a deal over $40 shipping think about what loonatic you might meet picking it up. $40 might be cheap insurance to be alive the next day. If I do buy something that requires pick up I do not go alone, I do not go at night, and I do not go to isolated places (like the middle of the desert).

WOW!!! There is always meeting someone at a Local 7-11  As for Not showing Uo, well thats just the same as them Not Paying.. Look at their feedback.. But to me, being able to pick something rather expensive up is safer for the Buyer and seller so there can be no issues afterwards!!
Ya Know, Like Y said, Lots of Bad Buyers, BUT Lots of BAD Sellers!!!
I Guess there are so many ways of looking at it, Me I have never had and never will have any issue letting someone come out or meeting them somewere to complete a deal..

I agree with kevin on this, especially for hi dollar items, they don't necessarily have to let me come over to there house but I see no reason why they couldn't meet me at a gas station or where ever so I can deliver them the $$ and see my item, theres probably a lot more bad sellers trying to rip someone off than there is psycho's buying things on ebay......who has the most to gain?

i am an ebay-oholic as well.I have done several pickups. The last was 2 sets of dodge magnum steel wheels and stock tires with under 5k miles on them for 99 bucks a set(got them from a wheel dealer that does change outs,he had a few dozen)I had a meeting in LA(4.5 hours away) and so picked them up,no extra charges, great seller.I needed the wheels to use as roller for my mopar projects, plus i can use the tires when mine wear out on my magnum.I also sold a 340 magnum on ebay and delivered it to Sac(4 hours away) when i had a meeting up there.I didnt charge the buyer anything. Now i am not sure i would let someone come pick anything up at my house........

If I were EVER going to do local pickup, which I'd do only hesitantly, I'd do it thusly:

1) They would have to pay in advance.
2) We'd arrange for a meeting at a local location, no my home.
3) I'd get their cell phone number.
4) We'd have a time. I'd let them know I'm not hanging around forever. I'd call them 15 minutes after the meeting time and if they didn't answer their cell, I'd be leaving, and they could then arrange to send me shipping fees and I'd ship it, but I have the payment in full already, so deal with it.

Because you're right, it's a FAVOR to them to save them the shipping $$$. The proper way to respond to a favor is with consideration and respect. Not showing up in inconsiderate and disrespectful.

I'd just be totally upfront about all of that.

Ebay has been getting horrible. I listed a laptop on there TWICE, and each time I recieved 5-10 spam/scam emails, and both times the winning bidder was either a scam and deleted by Ebay or the person didn't want the item.

I shall be avoiding ebay for a while.
