Hello Wayne, welcome to the VTXOA. Looks good in the pix. 2003 1300 VTX was the only year a fuel pump was used on a 1300. Many have failed. The FP electrical has caused a failure. In the How to Step by Step board are two threads to remove the FP. Enjoy the ride.

I took my fuel pump out as a precautionary measure. Kept the same petcock and gravity fed the carb. I simply turned off the petcock after reach ride.

Do yourself a favor and check the petcock screen; they deteriorate over time. The carb has a screen in the fuel inlet brass tube you should check as well.

Enjoy the miles!

Thanks for the info, I'll add that to my list. I got the bike from a guy who'd done a lot to it, new tires, tubes, axle bearings, brakes and rotors, carb rebuild, driveline serviced, oil change, air and fuel filters. New mirrors and oem air box. I've got new bars, Baron adapter, risers, grips, levers, windshield, forks, taillight, crash bar, bags, passenger seat, cargo rack, backrest. I think I'll need a new battery. I'm going to end up with over 4 grand in it, and a bunch of sweat equity. Wish I'd shopped more and bought a cleaner example.

A lot of your changes are specific to you, and not the previous owner (PO). Bars, risers, grips for example. On my 1300 I kept the bars and changed the risers only and it was very comfortable for me. In any case, if the bike has rust and paint that needs work I feel you on that.

But you now know it, her inside and out, and all the sweat equity you invested in a known commodity. Priceless.
