Hello all. Just purchased a 2002 VTX 1800. I have ridden for many years but am new to this machine. Most of my time has been on BMW airheads, so this will be quite a change. I am sure I will have lots of questions.

Pick up the bike tomorrow.

1. Tighten the battery cables
2. Do the "Ground Fix" as seen on our "How To;Step-by-Step" board https://www.vtxoa.com/forums/97-1800-section/335196-1800-ground-fix-tapper.html
These are the Top 2 reasons for poor running, stumbling
3. Has the Fuel Pressure Regulator or FPR been changed recently? If it hasn't or you don't know, check the oil for it being overfilled and/or reeking of fuel. If the oil reeeks of fuel do NOT ride it home. The FPR has gone bad and is allowing too much fuel into the combustion chambers and the excess is washing down the cylinder walls into the engine case thinning the oil and you will cook the bearings

Thanks all. The machine is in great condition. Rode home without issue. Got in some additional riding over the weekend. I am in the midst of getting everything adjusted. Windshield was horrible but now wonderful. Keeps all the buffering off of my head but I still get great cooling airflow. Got the hand controls set to my liking. It is wildly different than the airheads I have ridden for years. I am learning new riding techniques for cruiser geometry. Low-speed cornering and turns mostly. The footpegs are in play much earlier than what I am used to. Every bike is different.

I enjoy the power and growl of this bike. It is quite stable in crosswinds. I got a great price on the bike but probably spent as much in gear and accessories as I did on the motorcycle. When I sold the beemer I got rid of everything.

I will post pics once o figure out how to do it I usually access the forum via phone, so that may pose limitations.
