Hello all,
I just bought a new VTX 1800 retro spec 2, and I love it(awesome bike). I looked at a lot of bikes before I bought this one and was wandering if anybody has any advice on where to buy accessories, I want to personalize it a little(windshield,sissybar,bags,...), or just advice on the bike itself(maintenance & upkeep). Any and all advice welcome. Anybody in or near the walton county area? wanna go ridin'?

Welcome Elco, great choice of bike. Most of my stuff comes from either ebay or cruisercustomizing.com. hdl is also a good place to get parts not to mention he is the one paying for this site. I'm from Jackson County which should not be too far from you. Enjoy your stay here and chime in when you can.

Welcome.

Congrats on the VTX. Its an awesome bike.

Here in GA only the women ride with windshields. So you shouldnt add a windshield.

Oh boy! Here it comes.

My advice is to buy nothing until you meet a few of us and see what we did with our bikes. A couple dozen VTXs.. no two the same.

TCT is right. That also covers trailers for your scoot.

Where's Walton County?[/quote]

Walton is about 25 miles east of Stone Mountain. I live in a little town called Loganville.

Welcome aboard elco. Hotfix was right about one thing. Check out the mods that other people have done, before you start spending big bucks that are difficult or impossible to get back when you don't like the mod. Don't let them scare you about the windshield either. I don't care for the look of a windshield, but after riding 700 miles home without one, I knew it would be one of my first purchases. The other would be an aftermarket seat. I am secure in my manhood.

Ultimately you will have to decide what you want to do to make this bike yours. Personally, comfort mods have been first on my list. Others go for performance enhancements. It might be a long ride, but the best suggestion I could make is for you to come to the Vortex in Little Five Points on the 2nd Thursday of the month (there is a thread in this forum) when a bunch of us try to get together. That will be your best chance to look, listen, feel and ask about lots of mods. If that is not feasible, then hook up with any of us when we post that we are going for a ride. There are several folks that are on the NE side of Atlanta and sometimes one of them (Bardo) even suggests a NE Meet & Greet.

welcome elco,

hotfix's advice is right on the money. go look at other bikes, find what you like, then find a vendor. any mods you are thinking about makeing feel free to discuss with the forum. there is no substitute for hands-on experience.

of course, as a die hard full-bore "chromoholic" , my advice to you is to seek professional help now before the disease really takes hold!!!!!! :p

lol

First of all, Welcome . . .

My recommendation for mods is real simple. Blindly try as many mods as you can, spend alot of money upfront. What you don't like, sell cheap to those here on the GA board so they can take advantage of your misfortune. I can name a few who are likely chomping at the bit right now for a real steal . . .
