I just picked up my 2002 VTX 1800R with 442....Yes 442 miles on it. I am a former Goldwing owner (85 & 94) and I am in awe. I'm also fascinated with this VTX web page. Use guys (S. Jersey/Phila) are really into your VTX's. Funny thing is, I was originally looking at HD Road Kings (Am I allowed to say that name in here??), but the prices are ridiculous and I'm not into paying for labels. Let me know if anyone else thought or looked the same way. Well anyway it's good to be here and I look forward to learning more and riding much. A Big hello to all my South Jersey Friends. Stay safe!

Rambo,

I just went thru the same thing a few months ago. I wanted a Harley....just cause most of us are programmed by the marketing machine that this is the ultimate bike. I started looking at prices and found out the markup of at least 20% over cost! I then found that I could get a new '03 VTX 1800 for less than a new Harley Sportster 883. The decision was easy. I couldn't be happier with the VTX and now like my bike better than most of the high dollar Harleys.

Welcome. Hopefully, the original owner also put some nice chrome pieces on it for you.

Welcome to the board!
Bookmark this website, http://tech.vtxoa.com This is the sister site to this message board and contains all your How-to/Tips/Tricks/Why’s and links to other helpful sites for your new VTX.
There is also a helpful red Search icon at the top of every page(not the Google search). Enter your item to be searched in the "Search Query" section and click the "Search for all terms" bullet under the query. Then go to the "Search Options" section and choose a board from the "Forum" drop down menu. This will limit the results to your search so you won't get pages of "Fluff" .

The pupose of the "Search" is to offer a member the opportunity to research his/her question better. There is so much information from past threads that you may never see because that member is no longer here, or doesn't see your new post, or just won't respond to the same question. So use it to your advantage and enjoy the board! View this funny and informative film about posting and searching…

Also, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the forum. At the top of every board there are threads that are tagged as "Sticky" These threads are "Sticky" because they contain very important/valuable information about the VTX and everyone should read them.
The thread at the top of the 1800 tech board called, "Air, Fuel, Motors..." will answer most of the performance questions...

Also, update your Profile to include what type X you have to your Signature line. I.E. 1300/1800/C/F/N/R/S.

Good For me, bad for him.

Unfortunately the gentleman who had this bike passed away just after he bought it. I am very fortunate, and his wife wanted it to go to someone who would appreciate it. I'm doing that already.

Ooof, that hurt.

"What kind of a retard would ever do that?''
"Actually, sir, this man has MS."

Lt. Rambo,

Welcome to the VTX Family from a "neighbor" in Philly.... well very close to Philly.

Hope you got to ride the last few days with this great weather we've had.

And I just gotta mention... please check out the threads on the Honda Homecoming. That way you can get to meet many of us in person!! :D :D

Welcome Rambo. Last year when I first started looking for a bike I checked with Honda Finance and they offered me a credit line of up to 23000.00 . HD offered me this advice, "get a real job and come back with a 10% down payment." Straight up! Then I went and found an even better deal from a bank and bought my VTX! Screw HD! 8)

When I bought mine there was no question for me either.

Welcome to the family.

You could pay twice as much for less performance and reliability in the HD, all the guys from work shup up after they saw mine and tried to race me.. LOL dusted thier butts nicely. V-Rods, Fat Boys, Big Dogs ect ect. I even helped one of them fix one that broke down while we were riding together on his new one. I laughed for days to myself after that. They couldn't believe how much I paid for such a nice bike.

congrats on the bike you wont be disappointed. Before I bought my x I looked at the harleys and they are nice bikes. Had the cash to buy it. But when I found the x I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I am so happy I went with the x instead of the harley. Enjoy!!
