I recently changed to Amsoil and have been keeping an eye on my oil levels and have ran into something I do not understand. I follow the manual about the proper procedure in use of the dipstick to verify oil levels and one side of the dipstick always indicates a lower oil level than the otherside. I mean as in a oil level at lower mark and the otherside shows slightly below the top mark. This is annoying to say the least. How do you determine the true oil level? Am I doing something stupid?

Thanks for your thoughts

unless you have clouds of blue smoke or oil drips under
your bike, just ignore the dipstick.

if you added the correct amount at the oil change its
not going to go anywhere so don't worry about it.

Next oil change;
Drain old out take both drain plugs out and filter off.
Add fresh oil 4 quarts and new filter
Start bike and check for leaks
Shut bike off and let stand on the sidestand for 5 minutes
WITH BIKE ON SIDESTAND, remove dipstick and wipe clean.
Insert dipstick and remove, using a Sharpie mark the level of the oil
With file or Dremel tool, make a permanent scratch on dipstick at that Sharpie mark.
THIS will be your new "Full" mark

Checking the oil level while balancing the bike upright is extremely hard to get an acurate level. You can do it twice in the same spot and come up with 2 diufferent readings
