Guys when your given a torwque, ie bolts that hold
the shocks on the bike, the manual says 20 ft lbs.
is the torque given so you dont snap bolts are for other reason,
which leads me into my question, the bolts that hold the exhaust
to the manifold, i beleive are so 17 or 20 ft lbs,
now if you over torque or torque blinding, is the danger just
in stripping or snapping the bolt, or does the 20 ft bolts allow
for play with the exhaust being air tight in those locating?!

If you over torque you chance snapping/stripping the bolt. it is also possible to case warpage of the item being bolted down, but not is this application. it is probably best to have even pressure eon both nuts to help maintain a tight seal to the exhaust seat. I've not use a torque wrench on exhaust bolts. Just my calibrated wrist.

I've over torqued bolts before and it sucks. On my Shadow I over torqued a bolt holding the top of the motor to a frame in the engine and broke the bolt in the housing. In trying to get the bolt out I realized I'd also cracked the housing.

I was being cheap and didn't want to buy a torque wrench. That new part for the motor cost me nearly twice what the Torque wrench would have cost.

That there was an expensive lesson to learn.
