Hello Board,

Sometime in the next month or so, I have a couple of things to fix/change/replace on my Dad's '02 VTX 1800C. Specifically, his front bearings are going, he needs new brakes, and his fork seals are leaking. I would also like to do the Desmog/Pair Valve removal, as well as replace the stock springs with progressives (which he has already purchased). I am a big believer in peer-reviewing, so for those of you with experience in these procedures and parts, can you tell me if I have all the right parts listed? I made an Excel chart, but it didn't transfer over very well. Thanks in advance!

I'd go with OEM brake pads, less dust and less noisey.

The OEM brake pad set is 06455-MCH-006 on HDLparts.com, right? I could go for the OEM brake pads. Other than that, does everything else look good?

2002 VTX 1800C OEM brake pad part numbers: 06455-MCH-006 Left front - 06455-MAT-E22 Right front - 06455-MAT-E22 Rear. If you are interested I have a brand new set of GP block off plates that I would sell to you for $13 shipped. Good luck on your project.

Hey Jim, thanks for the catch and correction on the OEM brake parts. Updated table is below. Are these all the parts I would need for a front wheel bearings change, new front fork seals, and the desmog? Do I really need new guide bushings and bushing sliders?

Since you are going to have everything apart I would replace the sliders and bushings as the cost is not that much more in parts. How many miles are on the bike? Make sure you put the fork seal in correctly, there is a difference to which side goes in the up direction and to flush the forks real good. Read this link to a post on it and there are instructions and videos on how to do it on Bareasschoppers and northstarriders sites. Also on the how to board on this site VTXOA. If I remember right, somewhere around 23K miles. Not too much, but his front left fork seal is noticeably leaking. It was mentioned to me by TCB that might also be why his front left bearing is going bad.
