Recently while traveling along in Wyoming I lost my phone. Not exactly sure what happened but the holder I had didn't do what I bought it to do, which was "hold my phone". So along with my phone, it is somewhere in Wyoming as well....
What I would like to know, is what have you used that commands recommendation. I have an Android blah blah blah phone.
I have been looking at the Kurakyn http://www.jpcycles.com/product/605-838
I purchased a ram mount X grip. Have had it for 3 years. Never any issues. Holds phone perfectly and you can reposition you phone up down, closer or farther from you. http://www.rammount.com/device/phone-mounts#x-grip
While I'm sure the Kury is top notch, and I've got a friend with a ram mount GPS that he likes, I've got a cheap ebay item that's been on 3 bikes and close to 10k miles without issues (For GPS, not phone.) Ugly as sin but works. Also it's water resistant (not waterproof). Zipper i'm sure wouldn't take being submerged and around the inlet for the power wire it's just some foam that definitely wouldn't take submerging, however it's held more then I'd like to remember downpours when I've been out and kept on and the GPS ran right out through.
I keep my phone safely in my jacket pocket or saddlebag and can send or receive calls and text with no problem. Never have to worry about the phone falling loose while on the road.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a SENA mounted on my helmet which allows all those functions, plus communication with my passenger and it plays my music. (It's nice hearing music privately in the helmet without bothering the neighbors with booming speakers).
Really depends on what you need the phone out for. I use mine really only to play music. In that case it's attached to either the bike or my earbuds and would notice it gone immediately, but I use this guy;
It works for me, but if you need to because you are using maps or anything like that, you will want a RAM mount. They are simply the best I've ever run across.
My son got me this one for Christmas, and it works great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-M...ash=item3f4c9408c0:g:hk8AAOSwiYFXDbf~&vxp=mtr
It has the sides that clamp against the phone, but also the straps to go over the corners to make sure it doesn't come off, and the holder itself screws to the handlebar mount really well. Haven't had it on long, but so far, it's worked quite well. Not waterproof, though.
I have this one. It works great. I used it on my Galaxy Note 7 until it blew up, I mean returned it. Now use it on the S7 Edge. Most of the time I don't even use the rubber straps provided. Although the are easily applied and add great extra protection of preventing the phone from falling out.
works with Rammount. I also have the x-grip but usually use it on my bicycle , just make sure you use the tether with it. I think they come with the tether now.
Like to thank everyone for their input, it is appreciated. I was out and about today and stopped by the local BigOne powersports center. Mostly to see what they had for phone holders. But also to gawk at the new Indian Springfields, and others.
All they had where RAM mounts with claw attachments. I told them I wasnt to sure about spring loaded stuff. So he demonstrated it with his phone. Placing phone into holder, he proceeding to shake the living hell out of the thing. I said damn, maybe I am interested. I spent more than I cared to, but hey this things got more positions than the kamasutra......
Did he use the rubber tether with it when he demonstrated it for you ? It will not pop out with the tether even though it is not as quick to put the phone in the holder or to remove it.
I've had mine pop out in the past , 3 or 4 times. Fortunately it landed on my leg each time. That's when I switched to the slipgripcarmount. I think the tether came out after several complaints about it popping out. Would only happen when I would hit a decent sized bump.
