Just installed my new braided cables on my 1300s. Had to take off tank, seat and loosen the air box to get to the carbs. After putting it back together i have developed a pop during deceleration. can you help?

Decel popping (that was not present before you took the tank off) is caused by a lean condition... look for a bad connection in the hoses or intake manifold (rubber boot).. you most likely are sucking air someplace.

Lift the rear of the tank up and check the small hose going to the top of the pair valve (left side close to thetop of the frame , rear middle of the tank line) If it is connccted check the small tank vent connected to the rear bottom right of tank. None of the above, lift the tank off and dig in.
Good luck

One of your exhaust bolts may be loose. They loosen by themselves all the time.

I thought this $h!t was normal. How about the snap, crackle and the pop during decelaration? Mine only seems to do it when I am on a down hill and I let go of the throttle. It'll do it whether I downshift or not.

He!! yeah thats normal. On my bike anyway. I also get a little crackling at about 1/8 throttle or less then let off. I know it's rich just have to get back in there and play with it.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but I think it cycles air into the exhaust to burn off any unburned gas, in an effort to have cleaner emissions, which is basically similar to an exhaust leak. I did the pair valve removal after clayton and I still get popping on decel, sometimes it's a little pop, sometimes a goddamn gunshot. pisses me off pretty bad. worst is when I'm flying down the highway at 80, 85 (more like 75 w/ speedo error) and traffic in front of me slows enough to roll off the throttle, but not necessary to brake.... I roll off the throttle and BLAM fluttler flutter flutter flutter BLAM! flutter flutter... so I pull in the clutch at 80 and just feel slightly less stupid.
