Hi folks,

As a few people on the board are aware my mother has cancer, she's been battling it for two years now and it's almost over.

Recently she's had some strokes and has become so weak that she's bed-ridden. My brother, myself, and my father (mostly) have been doing everything we can to keep her at home but both my brother and I work and my father is self employed and it's finally become too much.

Tomorrow morning we're putting my mother in a hospice where she can be better taken care of.

This is very hard on all of us, though for different reasons. My mother is upset because she doesn't like strangers helping her, my father is depressed because he feels like he's failing my mother, and I'm depressed because I'm concerned that my mother is going to die alone amongst strangers.

I'm hoping that people might shoot a few prayers our way, positive energy, loan some Karma, whatever it is you believe in to help out.

My concern at this stage isnt' for my mother's health it's that she die in peace with family at her side.

So if you could help I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

STU,

Sorry to hear about what you're going thru. It'll be hard on your mom for the first few days, but then she'll appreciate the good care she's getting and the staff won't be strangers for long.

It'll also take a lot of the strain off your family. When you have to give that much care to someone, even a loved one, its easy to resent the imposition on your time, resources and patience. You can easily begin to hate them and hate yourself for feeling that way.

Best of luck.

Woot!

STU,

I went through this with my Mother at age 63. Chemo then radiation then surgery. Enjoy every minute you can knowing that you and your Family are doing everything you can. I learned that it is not the length, but the quality of life. The very fact that you are concerned about this shows the character of your Family. Please know that we are with you in your time of need and our prayers too.

Prayers sent for you, your mother, and the rest of the family. Tough decision. I'm sure she realizes how much you all love her and will pass in peace whether you are there or not.

My wife is A Hospice intake coordinator and she tells me that the nurses really start good relation ships with the patients and become very close to the family while providing care. I hope it works out for your family. prayers sent

Just talked to God and asked Him to take care of your mom on whatever plans He has for her. Also, to give you all the strength to take care of her and enjoy her as much as you can.

Yes, I have asked the One True Living God to be merciful to your mother and give you guys strength. I lost my mother-n-law from smoking all her life six months ago. We had to wait on her for 5 years. She didn't want any one else to see her that way, so we had to wait on her. We put a lot of things on hold. It's tough.
