Depending on how deep those rust spots are you might be able to get away with setting evaporust-soaked rags on the pipes, then cleaning them off. If there is rust left over, wd-40 as a lubricant and 3000 grit sandpaper (light touch) can bring them back (sand along the length of the pipes)

Steel wool before resorting to sanding. 0000 grade. + WD40. Wear kitchen grade rubber gloves or lose all your fingerprints.

Not worth the money to have the pipes re-chrome plated, might cost half the price of a new set of pipes, you might not be happy with the results if the surface has imperfections. Options - clean rust off best you can. Spray with high heat black spray paint. Or go with pipe wrap. Or find new pipes.

Those pipes are showing a crack in them, and even if they didn't have one, the cost of re-chrome is about what you'll pay for a new set. For example here is a set you can buy new for about what re-chrome would cost:

Cobra Chrome Dragsters Full Exhaust Honda VTX1300 C/R/S/T/Retro 2003-2009 1630T | eBay

If you take your time and search on EBay, you'll likely find a set of used pipes in decent condition for even cheaper than new.

I recently got my Harley pipes ceramic coated and love the look, if you care for the look of black pipes, they will hold up in the rain without worry of rust, which chrome is prone to if neglected. I believe ceramic coating is significantly cheaper than chrome. Another option is getting used headers and buying new slip-on's, which are cheaper than a full, new set of pipes.

If you do get chrome anything, it will not rust if you put some chrome polish on it every couple months. Worth the effort in my opinion.

Good luck. (y)

Yes, many early sets of HK's had the welds crack between the pipe & heat shield. Not all. Or later ones.

I've wrapped my own pipes, as shown on my V-Star 1100, (see picture) but I think it looks lame when the heat shields are wrapped so the pipes look super fat. I cut the heat shields off my pictured bike first, then wrapped them.

Exactly what I will do to mine. Cut the shields off. They rattle anyway, from broken welds.
TY Nice machine.
