The thread on Flange bearings got me to thinking...how many/if any have replaced there rubber dampners...the 1800 wheel I’m running didnt have any so I know mine are reasonably new....I have an extra set in a 1300 wheel...inquiring minds would like to know....thanks

I am still using the original.
Many years ago I put some silicone grease on them.
Inspected them a few times. Seems to be good.
I am not hard on them.
4" travel from mark to mark using kickstand on floor.

That's a good question. I suppose with age alone they might harden a bit, maybe not. Not enough miles on my 04, but while I have my wheel apart I'll take a peek. There's a ring seal underneath the hub stud plate that needs a lookin at too.

When I pulled mine out they looked ok. The bike I gave my son years ago was a 99 cbr 900 and those looked fine and were the originals, So dont think you need to worry about em unless you feel something that you shouldnt

92,497 Miles - 03/24/12

* Replaced rear tire (6th Avon rear) - 18,703 miles on 5th rear tire
* Replaced worn out dampers on the rear wheel
* Replaced worn out Flange A (bearing failure) with a reworked one from Jon's1800VTXC
* Replaced dead battery (lasted 6.5 years)

I remembered he had changed the dampers, just had to search a few pages.

I like to keep stuff on hand(cables,pads,etc) might order up a care package including these ...Many Thanks for replies...:thumbup:

When I went darkside, I ordered an extra wheel off of ebay. I sent that flange bearing to get the upgrade from the guy Jon who does the mods (did a great job, and even sent it pre-moly'ed the splines). The flange bearing was toast, it wouldn't even spin (rusted). I also ordered new dampeners for that wheel.

I noticed that the flange side would easily slide into the wheel. Once I put new dampeners in, I had to actually put a thin coat moly to be able to get the the flange side to slide into the wheel. The snap ring also was flush with the flange side, while before there was a small amount of play installed.

I don't think there was anything that would cause damage with the old dampeners, but I could see they where 1) not as soft and 2) not as thick. It wasn't too expensive from the my local Honda dealer (they price match and get it to me within 2 business days). They were <$40, so, if you are wondering, at that price I would just replace them, they are cheap enough, and easy enough to replace.
