Shows 4 dashes across bottom of the gauge??? Can you provide more info??
What year and model??? I found a previous thread. 03 1800C
Tripmeter has battery backup, odometer has permanent memory,,
VSS supplies 3.7 to 5.0 volt square wave pulses to the speedo and to the ECM

Is it the tripmeter with dashes?
Does the speedo unit have power to it??
Is the tail light, Neutral light, oil light working?

A pic might be helpful.

My guess is a vehicle speed sensor the VSS I think Honda calls it
Wicked. Knowing a thing or two about computers, might be worthwhile to replace the battery in the instrument panel for the odometer. Anyone know if that has that ever been done?
If you hit the Trip switch, do you see a odometer reading?
Go through the sequence a few times.
B fuse = Black/Brown is the +12v to the speedo and to the indicators.
Two Natural color 6 pin connectors have the Bl/Br. Check for voltage..
Open the connector, spray some Wd40 or contact cleaner.. Close the connector.
Green/Black is the dedicated speedo Ground at the Common Electronics bolt.
VSS also has Bl/Br +12v and the Green/Black at the VSS.
Pink/Green is the wire for the +5v pulses to the speedo unit.

Regarding the Tripmeter battery voltage, it is a 10 amp fuse >>
Red/Green wire at the speedo unit.
HOT all the time. "F" fuse.
