Took a ride this morning and made several stops and each time I restarted the bike, no problem. Then, while several miles from home of course, made a stop for some ice cream. Went back out to start the bike and nothing-----no clicks, no whirs, no start at all. Sat a few minutes retried with same result. Did get two clicks once though. After pushing the start button several times it finally caught and Iwas able to get home.
Battery cables are fine. A couple of times recently I have noticed that the starter is reluctant, but usually fires on 2nd or 3rd attempt---but that is not a regular event.
My questions:
1. Do I need a new starter switch (on the handlebars) OR
2. Do I need a new key ignition switch (where the key goes) AND
3. If I find a hill steep enough to get some speed up can I jump start it like the old bikes--you know, coast downhill with the clutch in and in 2nd gear then pop the clutch?

Thanks in advance.

I periodically give mine a shot of contact cleaner and the WD40 (WD40 is non conductive by the way) and good to go.
If you use the car wash to wash ( I don't ) NEVER spray directly at the switch housings, water gets in and can short you out on start.
