I nkow how you feel Chris. I stare at the water 14 days at a time on a gas production platform in the Gulf. The other side of the coin is I get to go home for 14 days after that.

Thanks for doing what you do Chris!

Weather was beautiful here in Dallas Texas today. Did I ride? No. I spend all day with my step mother (can't stand her) looking for a nursing home for my critically ill father. :( I'm not trying to bring the whole board down here. I'm just trying to say sometimes we don't get to do what we want. I'm trying to do what's best for my family, you're doing what's best for our whole country. Hang in there man. There will be good days ahead.

You being in the ocean on that ship, as well as thousands around the globe, is what enables us back home to ride when we feel like it. Thanks for your sacrafice!

Thanks for all your comments and praise of my bike. It's deffinatley appreciated. Soarry to hear about your situation Camello, I can only offer my condolences and hope that your father will not suffer.

I am currently stationed in San Diego Ca. Its a great place, sunny almost all year, hardly rains and you can ride all year long. I love my job in the navy, Im a sonar tech second class STG2 (SW). The (SW) stands for, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist for you non Navy types. Im on the USS Decatur which is a Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG). We "Tin Can" sailors are the work horses of the Navy. We go every where and do everything except launch air planes. Just like any job it has its ups and downs. However, its the best job Ive ever had and its more than a job, I do this for people who cant do it for themselves.

yes we have internet out at sea, they tell us its a moral issue now adays. the navy is very concerned with trying to make the ship very home like so they are doing things like this to make our lives a little better. the internet works at a speed of a 2400bps modem but it works so i cant complain. :D

sailor reunion

Hello Mates,

Spent 4 years 1975-1979 on USS Independence myself. Its now mothballed sitting in Bremerton Washington awaiting a fate similar to what is going on with the USS America now. Its been stricken from the register already, it will become a reef somewhere along the west coast I assume.
You've all heard of the USS America being used as target practice and demolition study before it goes to its final resting place in Davy Jones Locker. Sad story. If you want the story in its entirety, go to MSNBC.com and do a search on their site for USS America. You'll find it, its there. A segment about this was aired on NBC's Fridays evening news.

Thanks for doing what you do, if it wasn't for you and all the others like you out there we wouldn't be doing what we love here landside. One Shout-out to you and your shipmates! God keep you safe.

did my time, 2 tin cans USS Tattnall (DDG-19) and USS MacDonough (DDG-39), both decommed. also USS Hawes (FFG-53) and USS Santa Barbara (AE-28), Santa B also Decommed. retired Nov '02 after 22+ years, was Chief Master-at-Arms, prior to '87 GMG. strange but i enjoyed sea duty better than shore.
