I went with the silverstar about 4000 miles ago,and discovered today that the hi beam is apperently gone. I do ride w/ hi beam on during the day, low beam after dark. I'm a little disapointed it didn't last longer. Any of you have experiance like this?

RB :(

x2. I had previously used a PIAA 110 watt bulb for twice the money of the Silverstar, didn't find it any brighter and probably lasted not much longer.

Thanks Guys, I was wonderini if I got a bad bulb, but I'm sticking with the Silver star anyway.

Hmmmm, I have had my silverstar on for 2 years or better and and it's still good to go. However, I don't run highbeam on during daylight as I have the lightbar w/driving lights. Maybe you got a bum bulb or the high beam element isn't meant to be on all the time on those bulbs. Curious to know if there are other riders with high beam issues....

Silverstare - US & European

This is a link from what I posted on Silversars in 2007 and others comments.

Here is a link to all the info and probably more than you wanted to know. Interesting reading. Silverstars life rating is 150 hours low & 50 hours high beam. Now you know. I just put in the European version of the Silverstar which is supposed to have 150/150 hour life rating. My U.S. version Silverstar lasted appx. 4k - 5k miles. I run high beam all the time during daylight hours.

At that rate it wouldn't take to long to pay for a HID.

With most all HID kits, you're basically limited to low beam. I bought a kit that was high/low, I lacked the wiring/connections/etc to activate the high beam function.

This is a common problem with the HID's . . . no high beam on moto's.

I'll stick to the Silverstars, best brightness out of a halogen I've found anywhere. . oh yeah, and I still have high beam low beam function.

You just bought the wrong one or didn't install correctly. If you want Hi beam then buy a kit with hi beam. Mine has worked flawlessly for nearly a year. So have the others I've installed.

I have had ZERO silverstars die on me.. whether it's in my truck, car, or bikes.

If you have a problem running the sylvanias, you can try to find the Osram version. They have a longer lamp life rating and are virtually the same bulb. They are sold on the european market, but are sold in the US at a small smattering of merchants.

The Silverstar i bought a few weeks ago had Sylvania/Osram on the package?
Autozone,18 bucks.

I have had a set in my truck for 4 years with no problems..I'll see how long the one in the X lasts..

I am with most of you that I run Highbeam during the day since most of the night would be on low. I am working on just over 7k miles and no issues yet.

The post about hi/low for HID is something to look for when/if you buy one. You can get very cheap kits that only have a low beam with no high at all. Spend a little more money and it has HID low and halogen high. Spend a little more money and you can get an honest to goodness high and low beam HID kit for your scooter. Custom Dynamics has about the best setup I have seen so far and there are thousands of options out there. I may possibly do this later, but I just changed all my turns to Kury leds so this is down the road.

:dontknow::dontknow:

Clearly I did. . . the kit I bought lacked the proper items to hook up the motorized bulb. . I was speaking to someone else on this board, they had the same problem I did (but somehow managed a way to hook it up, I believe).

:dontknow: Wouldn't be the first time I've got to re-buy to get the right part. .

Out of curiosity, what kit did you get? I might need to revisit the HID department!

Then you got an incomplete kit. There is a small relay box that actuates the hi/lo motor. If that is installed they work great.
No brand name on the units I use since I'm doing the importing. Next shipment should be in, in about 2 weeks. They will be the 50W HID and will be $85 shipped. As most things they are Chinese. Will do a test on the new units before selling any.

I have the Silverstars in main headlight and Big Bikes Light bar. The Light Bar does all of the work as the headlight is much less light. WAY better than stock. I've had the light bar bulbs go out after one year of riding, about 8k. Main headlight bulb is now on year 3. i put them in my Mazda 6 and they didn't last 6 months.

If you keep the sales receipt and packaging Sylvania will send you more if you think they burned out too fast. i sent a message to Sylvania and they told me to send them in with the stuff and they would replace them. I told them it was crap that they lasted 5-6 months. Sounds reasonable to me...

Am I to assume the Silverstar’s that have
print down the front side of the package "For Motorcycles Only"
is the 150/150 hour life rated version
and is also the European version?

Some packages say Made in Germany on the back but does not say
“For Motorcycles Only”
And....
Some packages say Made in Germany on the back but does say

There is a package labeled 9003/H4 that I assume is the lower rated, non-European bulb.(?)

Osram Silvania, Inc is the company name and
Silvania is the registered trademark for the company.

A simple light bulb can get to be a very complex issue in choosing one.
