Well, last night I attended our last Chicagoland Ride for Kids Task Force meeting before the ride this coming Sunday and all I have to say is:

THE BARTLETT VILLAGE BOARD SUCKS!!!

The route that we used last year, that I laid out, ended up using a road that for a distance of only 3 blocks was in Bartlett's police jurisdiction and of course, people from the one subdivision that had an exit blocked for two periods of 20 minutes as the bikes flowed past raised holy hell with the police department and mayor's office to the point where the Village of Bartlett's administration officially refused to let the ride come thru on the same route unless we could get the state legislature to make a specific law stating that they could block that one exit road just for the ride. Did I mention that this is not a turn point, not a controlled intersection, just a simple side road where people have to wait for traffic regardless in order to pull out on to the road?

I would urge anyone with contacts within or on the Bartlett village board to call them and tell them they need to support the Ride for Kids, especially since the Chicagoland ride is the largest RFK ride in the country and raises nearly $400,000 every year for pediatric brain tumor research and other related programs.

The difficulties in changing the route due to that 3 block section have been enormous, and while the cause is worth it the stubbornness of just one village over such a short span is entirely ridiculous. :x :x :x

Much appreciated!!!

I must also state that as of last night the Chicagoland Ride for Kids Task Force has in it's possession a proclamation approved by the legislature and signed by the Governor that proclaims that July 15th, 2007 is offically declared by the State of Illinois as "Ride for Kids Day". Even with this proclamation though the Village of Bartlett administration is still stopping us from using that one section of road.

That's a load of horse poop, especially if there is a different route whereby the people in the area can get out on the road  I'll put a call in tomorrow for you...

I'll work on this tomorrow. Sorry for the troubles and frustration Rich.

Thanks guys for all your help. I got an email last night after I went to bed that the Task Force leader has FINALIZED the route and has avoided going thru any part of Bartlett. For those of you who went on last years ride, where we ran Lake St. west and turned south on Naperville Rd. and then ran that south to West Bartlett Rd. that is where the big change is for this year. This year we are going to be again running Lake St. west but instead of turning south onto Naperville Rd. we will be turning south at the Bluff City Rd./Scales Mound Rd. intersection which isn't the safest place to make the turn, but has solved the problem of Bartlett.

Thanks again and I hope to see some of you at the ride! :D

First off the comment about Bartlett is uncalled for. If Rich has a beef with Bartlett administration that's one thing, but to include all of Bartlett is just plan wrong.

Now we've got a comment like this coming in. People stop and think what your saying. It not the people that make up the town. I would suggest that you call the Village Hall and express your displeasure.

Lets be adults here.

Mark,

I love ya Bro, but isn't it the people that elect the local government? Isn't it the will of the people to govern themselves? So in my opinion, the people of Bartlett have spoken and they do not want to allow this ride to hamper their morning routine, whatever that may be. You live in Bartlett so they have to listen to your requests as you elected them. (speaking in gross terms) Perhaps if enough like minded Bartlett residents called in favor of this, change may occur. Sorry had a rough day and this helped me vent some of my anger.

I think that maybe had the Village of Bartlett's administrators gone to the Ride for Kids, met those this has helped and listened to the success stories they may just walk away with a slightly different view of the impact we, as bikers, can have.

Sometimes people need a little dose of the real world to make them see clearly.

None the less the people of Bartlett have spoken through their legal representatives, as they should, and we are not welcome. So be it.

No big loss to us as there are lots of roads and the taskforce has made the necessary changes to avoid the inconvinience of seeing thousands of motorcyclists raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the kids.

Those same roads lead to many other places that may just welcome me and my fellow cyclists. (and that will always be in the back of my mind)

Only the town of Bartlett looses in this deal. A real shame.

THIS IS FOR KIDS!
Yes it is.
