Leading custom motorcycle tyre manufacturer, Cooper-Avon Tyres Ltd., has confirmed it has developed a 330/30R17 tyre that will be available for sale in early 2005.

Following the success of the 300 series tyres, launched at the beginning of 2004, Avon’s news underlines the company’s commitment to strengthen its dominance of the custom tyre market.

The tyre will be a 330/30R17 87V Venom-R AM42, suitable for fitment to rims between 11.5 and 12.5 inches. Like its predecessors it will be of radial construction with aramid belts for added stability. The radial construction also means it can be paired with a radial, bias belted or crossply front tyre.

The ‘330’ will also have special ‘rim protectors’ to help prevent damage to wheels from pot-holes. Usually only seen on top of the range car tyres, the Avon rim protection system will be seen as a welcome feature for riders investing in expensive custom wheels.

Supplies of the 330/30R17 Venom-R have already made their way to Bourget Bike Works in the USA, where drive system technology has been developed to accommodate the wide tyre. Details of how the system works are not yet available, but it is reported to have overcome some of the difficulties of managing the offset problems usually associated with fitting a fat rear tyre.

Having made its debut at the Sturgis rally in the USA at the beginning of August, the new Venom
