Your decision. I believe someone else was riding on tires older than recommended.
How much is your safety worth? Responses may vary. ANY rubber over 4-5 years old is getting hard losing its gripping ability and developing micro dryrot.I purchased my 2004 vtx 1300c 2011 it had 4242 on the odometer, 2014 I put New commander II's on it the bike has been inside all the time due to unforeseen illness sat for a while, my tires look like new I put 5819 on them. Back on the road again after extensive preride inspection the only thing my friends tell me is the date of the tires front is2013 rear 2015 no dry rot on eather tire opinion on replacing whenever there is no sign of weair and no road damage. Thank you in advance for your help I could not have cleaned this carburetor with out your help and I am not scared of grease or reanches.
Is your cite of 5819 miles the amount of wear on the new tires, or is it the total miles on the bike?
In either case, your tires are nearing end of life. If they have truly been indoors and protected from UV rays, and they have no weather-checking visible, then I would personally continue to use them a few more years, with careful monitoring. But that’s a personal call, and I’m not a very aggressive rider. If someone else judges that a firm 6 year expiration date on tires feels better for THEM, I would not argue their choice.
5819 is the mileage on the tire. Got new ones ordered. Is your cite of 5819 miles the amount of wear on the new tires, or is it the total miles on the bike?

That is a great video clip. Some facts and reality are great things to introduce into a conversation. It’s nice to see a counterbalance to the emotion and old wives tales. I was unaware that so many tire manufacturers recommended a ten year life.
It largely depends on how the tires were stored. My front tire was a decade old and was dry rotten pretty bad when I bought my bike. The tread was still good. I rode on it with the old tire for about 1000 miles while waiting for my new tire to show up. Knowing it was potentially dangerous, I still pushed my bike pretty hard on that old tire. It's possible that my inner tube helped provide extra support. Who knows. Glad you got the new ones ordered. What tires did you get?
Interesting you say that, my luck in money is so bad if it wasn't for bad luck I would not have luck, But in many other aspects of my life I do seem to get lucky. I call it karma, I help when I can, even to the point of not having anything myself on a couple of occasions. I live pretty well but it always feels like paycheck to paycheck, and it mostly is. I likely live well above my "means" but I would rather live life then not just to have something tucked away. I know that seems stupid, it probably is but I want to enjoy life while I can because none of us knows what tomorrow brings, It could be death, or even something like Parkinson's which will limit or stop you from doing what you enjoy. I would also point out I never expect to live into old age hell I am surprised I have lasted as long as I have. Some folks are lucky with Lotto too.
I'm curious, were the tires dry rotted?Couple years ago I had a similar consideration, I bought a 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 the tires looked good, the original mileage on the bike was 5,128 if I remember correctly the bike was 15 years old but barely used I rode the bike without any worry or cares it never gave me any trouble. When the tire wear became noticeable, it wasn't worn out just worn enough to start looking at the tires) I noticed the the date codes were 2004 so I looked at the brand and found these were the tires honda put on the bike originally, they had never been changed. I rode it for 2 years and sold it, letting the new owner know the tires would likely need changing, they were worn enough to warrant changing anyway.
Agreed, they do look good from these pictures. Do you know what brand they were?No they actually looked in good shape. here is the best picture of them I have, never intended to take pics of the tires so nothing close up. View attachment 219574

Nice looking ride. Take it easy and replace that old rubber as soon as it's financially feasible. Just asking: Would you carry a 10 or 15 yr. old condom in your wallet and expect it to do its intended purpose when you had to use it?No they actually looked in good shape. here is the best picture of them I have, never intended to take pics of the tires so nothing close up. Thank you, I have already sold that honda shadow, when I moved Now I have the VTX. As to your question about the condom, No I would not but for a bunch of reasons some of which don't apply lol I have been married for 25 years now and have 2 boys, both autistic so suffice to say I don't get a chance to use (even if I was inclined to) condoms.Nice looking ride. 🥰 I'm pretty sure you understood the analogy and that I was just being my usual slightly sarcastic self.Thank you, I have already sold that honda shadow, when I moved Now I have the VTX.
