My Honda VTX 1300 R uses a lot of fuel and there is a smell of fuel around the bike. Because I cant find a leak I opened up the air filter house.
I found out that the plastic holder of the air filter was burned.I took it out and found the reason why there is a smell of gas around the bike. The carburator is drained with fuel on the outside.
There is no visible leakage. I put a brand new fuel line to the tank, hoping that it would solve the problem. But it did not.
After driving the bike the carburator was again wet with fuel on the outside.
Has somebody experienced such a problem before? And if, what's the solution?

Time to remove bowl and check for trash in the float valve.
Better to take carb off the engine and clean it.

On a previous thread you mentioned some backfire I believe.. Your melted plastic.

I had backfires when my 2nd slide valve diaphragm developed tears/slits.
Lean will cause a backfire, accelerator pump not working, air leaks on vacuum lines.

Time to remove bowl and check for trash in the float valve.
Better to take carb off the engine and clean it.

Problem solved!
When I started with the carb I noticed the choke was loose. Further inspection also brought to light that the choke was stuck.
I took the choke out, and used some high grid sandpaper to polish it slightly.
See photo. After putting the choke back I also sprayed it with sealing plastic coating. That's why it's glossy.😀

A nut under the rubber cover at the knob can be adjusted to control friction of the return to Off (valve closed)
The transition to off does not provide high idle so engine dies.
I hold my Choke aka Starter Enrichment open until I get to 3rd or 4th gear.
