How do you tune a JMCB2003 for the maximum distance reception?

Is anybody on this list an expert at this? Just put on a new J & M CB unit and its terrific, but am told that the antenna needs to be tuned to get the max distance from it. Funny.... this was not mentioned anywhere in the J & M install instructions? Is this just understood by all who CB?

Who can do this tuning and where? How do I find someone? Am sorta lost about getting this done.

Thanks

WM you can go by any CB center/ shop to have this done. If anyone near you is a cb buff, he'll probable have the necessary meter for this task. Some of the antennas have an adjustible element to adjust to the proper wavelength. Most fiberglas antennas used on bikes with little groundplane will have a wire wrapped at the tip that can be cut to the proper length. Hope this info helps. Sorry, I haven't seen my meter since I loaned it out last.

You will need an SWR meter. You will connect the antenna into the meter, then the meter into the radio.

This should help. If you own more than 1 radio buy the unit. If not, find trucker and borrow one.

It really does make a difference.

If you do go to a radio shop, ask about getting your unit "Peaked And Tuned". I won't, but they will tell you what that is...

Thanks all for your GREAT advise and help. I did contact JJs in Florence since Im in the area and the CB works great now. Not sure I understand how these things work. I didnt know the antennae are that sensitive! Cut 1/8" of the fine copper wire wrap makes that big a difference? Wow. OK.... Ill trust you experts.

Thanks again....
