I think you have a petcock issue. Have you checked the petcock as well as the vacuum hose connected to it? (My apologies if this is something we are about to rehash)

Yes, you can. Yours has a vacuum-operated diaphragm, as you know. When air rushes through the intake manifold it creates a vacuum. And that vacuum pulls the petcock diaphragm open and allows fuel to the carburetor. Now, you can rebuild those diaphragms or you can replace the whole petcock. The choice is really up to you. Keep in mind my advice is based on what I'm reading. If you're accelerator pump works all the time but your bike does not consistently run well this all points to fuel delivery. Have you taken apart the petcock and looked at the diaphragm?

Just did for the first time. Other than just old in appearance it all seemed intact. No holes found anywhere or on the rubbery flap.

I've narrowed down alot of options and other than the carb itself (which was rebuilt last year supposedly and with jet kit completed when cobras went on) if it's not the petcock I'll be damned.

Isn't it odd tho if I blow air thru fuel hose to carb it then starts right up??? Im not entirely mechanical but doesn't the petcock push fuel to carb or does the carb suck it in?

That's a great question. Yours "falls" to the carb. If you had a fuel pump, the fuel pump would push the fuel to the carburetor. But yours goes from the petcock to the carb via gravity. If your petcock diaphragm is intact, no holes, no damage, your float valve maybe sticking in the up position sometimes. Next time you start the bike and it fails to keep running, rap on the side of the float bowl with a screwdriver handle or something. If the float valve is indeed sticking that vibration should let it fall again and allow more fuel into the carburetor. Then restart the bike and if it runs fine you know that's it.

Better yet, the bike rides like a dream smooth and nice. Since I bought it from first owner it's never been quite right until now.

Better yet, the bike rides like a dream smooth and nice. Since I bought it from first owner it's never been quite right until now.

I'm guessing your new petcock is gravity fed? Does this then do away with the need for the hose just left of the stock shutoff knob? I'm also curious about the the fuel reserve in terms of what you have from the aftermarket world. I would think the reserve level isn't universal, so if your new petcock has a reserve setting, how far can you go before you're out of gas?

Doe the petcock you bought have a brand and model# in case one of us wants to search for it?

Lastly, as I understand it, the reason Honda went with vacuum petcocks is to avoid risk of fuel leaking, so it's important to always turn the manual type off when parked. I'm guessing you already know this, but I'm pointing it out for anyone wondering why Honda didn't just leave them gravity fed.

It appeared as oem and was sold as "genuine". I did notice the original (that was supposedly replaced by dealer under recall notice), had a slightly longer filter stem.

The reserve worked well. Unsure how many miles it will go but drove 10 miles fine.

Now as far as shutting it off while parked. I am bad about that on the new one but did it religiously on the other crappy part I had.

The "reserve" fuel capacity on a 2007 "c" model is approximately 1 gallon. I never rely on more than 25 miles but have ridden farther than that on reserve, assuming 38-40 mpg
