No change of the clutch feel/response.
The slave piston pushes on the rod to dis-engage the clutch.
Pressure plate-bearing-joint-rod-slave piston.

Bare's procedure.

No difference in response. Feels the same. Rod does engage with piston.

OK, then. To me, its time to crack open the clutch and put your eyes on what's going on in there. Once you have the clutch open you can see what is or is not moving when you operate the handle.

Those plates look horrible to me, just look at these clutches and in the video on the page hop to 5 minute mark and you'll see a HUGE difference. Your basket also is blackened probably from heat. Either that oil has never been changed or it is not a very good oil.

Shouldn't the last friction plate be offset one notch? That's the way I remember it anyway.

And the steels are blue. It got really hot in there. She's done brother! Time for a new clutch pack. Steels and friction disks. Factory steels and Barnett or MTC friction plates, with Barnett or MTC springs will git 'er done. Follow the installation instructions. I do believe the last friction plate needs to be offset for things to work as intended.

Looking at the pressure plate, it got crazy hot at one point as well for it to get oil stained like that. I don't believe it will present a problem though, and the basket should still be good, so I don't think it's too bad off.

That couldn't be from sitting for too long with oil in it? The bike was literally garage parked for 15 years with oil in it

It's a 2002 VTX 1800C . Clutch moves freely. Neutral light comes on. Then I squeeze the clutch , down shift into first, ease out the clutch while increasing throttle and the bike increases RPM's but never accelerates. Moving up in gears doesn't change results unfortunately...
After seeing this clutch, I wonder if the clutch didn't slip at all before the acceleration problem.

No, that's burnt on oil. Oil just sitting will just be thick and gummy on the bottom of the case. Those plates got super heated and cooked the oil to the whole clutch pack
