What did you do to your VTX today?

Heya everyone! I looked around and didn't see a thread like this so I thought I would get one started. On all of the other bike and car sites I am a part of there is a thread like this that just lets folks say what they did with their vehicle that particular day. It might be adding a mod, ordering some trick parts, fixing an issue, detailing it or just simply riding it.

I'll get it started.

I decided to open up the airbox of the new to me VTX1800T that I brought home last week to see if it had been desmoged and what air filter it had.

To my surprise, there was a pool of motor oil in the bottom of the air box with no indication of where it came from. The TB intake path was clear as was the snorkel. No idea where it could have come from.

But the real shocker was what I found when I removed the cover. A dirt dauber nest.

The dealer I bought it from told me that it had been sitting on the showroom floor for 3 year... but a nest in the airbox? Seriously? LOL

So I ordered the block off plates so I can remove the AIR & PAIR systems.

I can't quite make out the name on the face of the analog clock there on the left. What is it? Thanks. I know 'Clocks4Bikes' went out of business several years ago.

I see that the clock comes with a "bolt-on" attachment. Where did you find a suitable bolt to attach the clock?

I added these guys to my bike a year or so ago. I don't know why it took me so long to get the bluetooth air pressure display!
I rely on it alot!!

I have purchased this same unit for the sport tourer but have been waiting for the tires to wear out to replace the valve stems with a metal ones first. It’s a great value and rated highly by reviewers.

Off-road adventures. When will the saddlebag on exhaust pipe light up.?
Throttle cables look tight. tie wrap holding headlight shroud in place.
Frt fender mounting bolt, a crack going up, looks like a wire trying to keep it together.
I can right click on many pictures and it opens a large picture in my browser.
WEBP image 1920 x 1440 pixels, I can see the details.
Those were my befuddled observations as well. It appears what’s mended the fractured fender are zip ties lol. 1.5 of them remain anyway. I wonder if the lower rear tank is showing rust damage. I didn’t have a good at that at the time. But at least the passenger helmet matches the paint scheme.

I was trying to find this a few weeks ago when I replaced the coolant, brake, clutch and oil. Removed the pair valve's. lol since then I have just ridden a few miles each time. Today might be time for a longer ride again.

Replaced the worn out progressive 412s (leaking oil) with 430s. Was a fast change out, particularly because my hard bags have a quick disconnect, taking 20 minutes. Final drive gear oil change (the first time I've done it for this bike) took a whole 10 minutes.

Clutch and brake bleeding next up.

Listed it for sale.

It’s been a great bike, but my joints were telling me that the forward controls were not doing me well. I’ve been doing more long rides and was definitely feeling them for a few days after.

Saturday I picked up a 2012 Kawasaki Versys 1000. Oh my, I’m in love all over again. Such a fun ride.

Hello Smurfy, I hope it works out for you.

I had a Yamaha with center pegs/pedals, I had hip pains from it. The VTX was my salvation.
Take care and enjoy the new ride.

Was having issues with the shift peg not downshifting correctly did some research and found the piviot point and shift linkage was likely sticking, so took it apart found the piviot was gritty as can be cleaned it up greased it and took it for a short test ride. seems to be good Now to go for a longer ride this afternoon.
