What did you do to your VTX today?

Heya everyone! I looked around and didn't see a thread like this so I thought I would get one started. On all of the other bike and car sites I am a part of there is a thread like this that just lets folks say what they did with their vehicle that particular day. It might be adding a mod, ordering some trick parts, fixing an issue, detailing it or just simply riding it.

I'll get it started.

I decided to open up the airbox of the new to me VTX1800T that I brought home last week to see if it had been desmoged and what air filter it had.

To my surprise, there was a pool of motor oil in the bottom of the air box with no indication of where it came from. The TB intake path was clear as was the snorkel. No idea where it could have come from.

But the real shocker was what I found when I removed the cover. A dirt dauber nest.

The dealer I bought it from told me that it had been sitting on the showroom floor for 3 year... but a nest in the airbox? Seriously? LOL

So I ordered the block off plates so I can remove the AIR & PAIR systems.

Had a small home repair contractor stop by today for a plumbing fix. He had first seen my bike 4-5 years ago, and was immediately in heat for it. He still is, and I told him it was going up for sale end of July and I'd be in touch. I hadn't seen him for nearly 2 yrs., and he thought maybe I'd already sold it. So he will get 1st crack at it for $4K. He is friends with the guy who has worked on the bike a couple times and most recently last week replacing the pads and clutch/ brake fluids. I'd done them before myself, but schedules and commitments always get in the way. For $100 I just let him do it and it's done right and quickly.

Fran, I am Sad to hear you are selling the bike. I understand its your decision. So the West Virginia ride will be your last?

Yes. And once I make an 'epic' decision I live or die with it. Someone with more ambition for riding should enjoy it.

Damn shame

No. Having a wife with Parkinsons to care for, thats the shame. It is what it is, and "for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health". There but for the grace of God, go I.

In today's age of instant gratification, if it doesn't continue we are done that is a very refreshing take. I applaud you, but I also think your a better man then I, I wouldn't stop riding, it might be severely curtailed but I would keep that dream alive.

But then again looking at it from all angles maybe your correct having it as a constant reminder turns the dream to a nightmare?

So Today I went for a ride before the rain started. I came back took off the seat and the gas tank, I am glad I bought and put on the gas line disconnect. I was going to link to where I bought it but I don't know where now. I did that in preparation of finding where my coolant is dripping from. I have a cooling system test kit hopefully it is just a hose clamp or at worst a hose.

well Found my problem, I don't know if this is what everyone says is typical as these only hold on the shroud they don't hold the radiator to the frame. Pressured up to 15 psi and it makes a pretty steady drip, slow but steady, at 7 psi no drips I think I need a radiator, but I might be able to get this fixed, I just would rather keep riding as it is and then replace in one day vs have the bike down for a few days/weeks.

Can't get that welded? Is it dropping from around the ring, or through the threads?

Around the outside, in the first pic I think you can see the crack, it is possible it could be repaired. but by the time I take it off find someone wait till they have time and then put it back together more time then I would like to go without riding, if that ends up being the way it goes so be it. but I will see what is available first.

If the leak is slow, could you use an additive that seals leaks? Maybe worth a shot. If you have the time to nurse it, maybe you can scout for someone who can weld aluminum.

Going to show mine some love in a little while and start cleaning her not-so-shiny bits in prep for the Ohio ride next weekend.

Today I gave my bike a good washing. I try to every weekend.

The bugs are attracted to my windshield just as badly as bird shit is to my gas tank!

Went for a ride this evening, and came across these at the harly dealer. I realize thees are not much of bikes but at a harly dealer? and these are just cool, The one is what looks like an early cummins 5.9 diesel.
