I'm going to be in the St. Georege / Springdale area and looking for some day rides in the area. It's going to be the end of April first of May. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Want to start and finish in the same location.
Thanks

A bit north ...

Here'sa nice ride that's a bit north of where you're talking. Start in Cedar City, UT, off I-15, in the downtown area. You'll take Highway 14 east from town up the Canyon toward Highway 148 (Panguith/Brian Head cutoff).

This will take you up Cedar Canyon on 14 and you will go from about 6000 feet elevation to around 8000. Along the way you will see some spectacular scenery changes as you ride from the high desert around Cedar (read rock canyons, nice cliffs, etc.) and ride up to the Alpine areas along the canyon. You'll also head right into the heart of Cedar Breaks National Monument area.

Be sure to watch for deer as you go. A lot of this area is public land, so there is an abundance of wildlife. You'll also see some great lava fields along the way. Be sure to look for the Southern Utah University Mountain Center along the road as well. The university owns about 2000 acres in this area and it is used for biology, zoology, and a few other ology tasks.

When you get to 148 head back north. This will take you to Brian Head, which is a nice ski resort and summer activity spot. Lots of trails and twisties on this road.

Cedar City to Brian head (on this route) is about 30 miles.

From Brian Head you'll head back toward Parowan on 143. This will take you back north and west. This is about 14 miles or so along the way. Frankly, you won't bother to watch miles because you'll be too busy looking at the beautiful scenery along the way.

At Parowan you can catch the interstate back to Cedar City (17 miles or so).

The trip can be a nice two-hour ride (or longer if you take the time to really see the country side), and it's got LOTS of twisties and varying sites.

There has got to be more

Hey folks. Any other ideas on one day trips? I've looked at the map and am concerned about the road conditions on some of the higher passes. Any other day trips out of the Springdale area would be appreciated.
Thanks doc_dj, one day is done. Still looking for one or two more.
Rdie safe!

Go through Zion, out of Springdale, take a right at Carmel Junction, end up in Kanab. At Fredonia take a right, will bring you back to Hurricane and from there you can end up back in Springdale or St. George.
