Just install a Memphis fats 21" screen. I've noticed that after about 50mph my head starts to get knocked around by the wind.
I've tried moving the screen back and forth on it mounts but it doesnt change anything.
Do lowers stop this buffeting effect.
Thanks.

Kiwi my 21 is all the way up and all the way back. It still has buffeting but that seemed to be the best setting. I did a searched on the lowers and everyone said they pretty much take care of it. I ordered mine with some progressive fork springs today while they are still on sale with the code word.

I have no lowers and no buffeting at all... I put the top windscreen level with the bridge of my noise and I point it as straight up as I can. This way the wind goes over my helmet's visor and not into my eyes and catching my visor causing the buffeting.

Also the way to find out if you need lowers is to go for a ride and get the buffeting to start, when the buffeting starts take one of your arms and put it across your chest if this stops the buffeting you need lowers. if does not stop the buffeting than your problem could most likely be with your windscreen setting..

Good luck,
Dave

I just installed my MS 21 phats also and I'm also experiencing the buffeting. I moved my feet and spread my knees far out while riding at around 75-80 mph, the buffeting minimize. So they were right that the wind is coming from the lower secrtion of the bike. That's why I am looking for a good Lowers rith now.

I was having this very same problem on my 2005 1300R. I also tried multiple setting on my windshiled with little effect. The subject of lower came up on the Michigan site and I started to do some research.

I saw a few different designs and the one that looked like they gave the best coverage were over 100 bucks. So I made my own. I took 2 pieces of 6" x 16" x 1/4" clear lexan from the local hardware ($1.84ea.) and a strip of 1/8" x 1-1/2" x 36" aluminum (under 8 bucks).

For under 15 bucks total and some of my time I built a set of lowers that are cheap to modify if I want. They took care of my buffeting problem and look as good as anything I've seen for sale. I'll take some pics later and post them if anyone wants to see what they look like.

Edit** Here are some shots of what i made.

This is an ongoing subject on here, I have ms fats 21" and have it set almost straight up it looks like chit but I get no buffeting even at 80 mph. go figure I sure would like to know why some have the buffeting while others with the same set up dont. I like the homemade lowers they qualify for a c.r.a.p. award. Have a safe one.

I have a Memphis Shades Fats 17"and 19". I experienced significant buffeting with both at speeds greater than 55 mph. Memphis Shades lowers eliminated the buffeting. I moved the directional lights forward with longer bolts and spacers so that I could position the lowers closer to the bottom of the windshield (a fix I found on this board previously).

I have the Memphis Fats 19" on the '06r, will I need to move the turn signal lights to mount the lowers?

Thanks.

I didn't on my 05. However, there's a space between the lowers and the shield where the signal lights are located. Don't know if it would improve the function if they were moved outward so there was no gap, but I noticed a huge reduction in buffeting when I added them.

I have the MS 21" and couldn't wear my 3/4 helmet the buffeting was so bad. Put on the lowers and it's about 90% better.

The lowers will help the most if they reach at least to the bottom of the shield.

there's something really important that I'm not sure anyone is acknowledging when in comes to buffeting... head gear.

I used to wear a full helmet 100% of the time. But once I got a windshield, i had severe buffeting, w/ my memphis slim 17" AND my memphis fat 21". when I wear my half helmet? NO BUFFETING AT ALL!

everyone has 2 cents about lowers and sheild sizes and body sizes and angles, etc.... but to be honest, I toyed w/ a lot of things and the difference when it comes to helmets is black and white.
